A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the text of municipal ballot propositions on the
issuance of bonds.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 1331, Government Code, is
amended by adding Section 1331.003 to read as follows:
Sec. 1331.003. BONDS THAT INCREASE TAXES. A ballot
proposition to approve bonds issued by a municipality that would
add or increase taxes must include the following statement: "THIS
IS A TAX INCREASE."
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only
to an election ordered on or after the effective date of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
