66 AN ACT
77 relating to the adjustment by the Texas Ethics Commission of
88 monetary reporting thresholds.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 571.064(b), Government Code, is amended
1111 to read as follows:
1212 (b) If a law, other than Section 305.005, administered and
1313 enforced by the commission sets dollar amounts or categories of
1414 amounts as reporting thresholds or if the commission sets those
1515 amounts, the commission [annually] shall decennially adjust those
1616 thresholds upward to the nearest multiple of $100 [$10] in
1717 accordance with the percentage increase for the preceding 10 years
1818 [previous year] in the Consumer Price Index for Urban Consumers
1919 published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the United States
2020 Department of Labor.
2121 SECTION 2. (a) Notwithstanding the changes in law made by
2222 this Act to Section 571.064(b), Government Code, the Texas Ethics
2323 Commission is not required to adjust a threshold amount under that
2424 subsection until the 10th year following the date on which the
2525 commission most recently adjusted the amount before the effective
2626 date of this Act.
2727 (b) The changes in law made by this Act to Section
2828 571.064(b), Government Code, do not affect an adjustment made by
2929 the Texas Ethics Commission under that subsection before the
3030 effective date of this Act. An adjustment made before the effective
3131 date of this Act is governed by the law in effect when the
3232 adjustment was made, and the former law is continued in effect for
3333 that purpose.
3434 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
