| 7 | 7 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 8 | 8 | SECTION 1. Section 2306.2585(a), Government Code, is | |
| 9 | 9 | amended to read as follows: | |
| 10 | 10 | (a) The department may administer a homeless housing and | |
| 11 | 11 | services program in each municipality in this state with a | |
| 12 | 12 | population of 200,000 [285,500] or more to: | |
| 13 | 13 | (1) provide for the construction, development, or | |
| 14 | 14 | procurement of housing for homeless persons; and | |
| 15 | 15 | (2) provide local programs to prevent and eliminate | |
| 16 | 16 | homelessness. | |
| 17 | 17 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
