| 7 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | SECTION 1. (a) In this Act, "commission" means the Texas |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Commission on Law Enforcement. |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | (b) The commission, in consultation with the Texas A&M |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Engineering Extension Service, shall conduct a study to identify |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | potential improvements to training provided to 9-1-1 emergency |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | service call takers and dispatchers. |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (c) In conducting the study, the commission shall consider: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (1) the effectiveness of current training provided to |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | 9-1-1 emergency service call takers and dispatchers on |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | communicating accurate information to law enforcement officers; |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (2) potential improvements to the training to ensure |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | 9-1-1 emergency service call takers and dispatchers are accurately |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | identifying, classifying, and communicating information. |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (d) In conducting the study, the commission may collaborate |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | with law enforcement agencies, community representatives, and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | other interested parties. |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | (e) Not later than September 1, 2024, the commission shall |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | prepare and submit to the legislature a written report containing |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the results of the study and any recommendations for legislative or |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | other action. |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | (f) This Act expires September 1, 2025. |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
