| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter E, Chapter 52, Government Code, is |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | amended by adding Section 52.060 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Sec. 52.060. TRANSCRIPT FEE EXEMPTION FOR CERTAIN COUNTIES. |

| 13 | 13 | | (a) This section applies only to a county that provides and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | maintains court reporting equipment for a court in the county in |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | accordance with the county's established plan for the periodic |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | replacement of obsolete equipment. |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (b) A county official or employee while transacting county |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | business is exempt from the payment of any fee authorized under this |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | chapter for issuance of a transcript of a case heard in a court for |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | which the county provides and maintains court reporting equipment |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | in accordance with the plan described by Subsection (a). |

| 22 | 22 | | SECTION 2. Section 52.060, Government Code, as added by |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | this Act, applies only to a fee for a transcript requested in |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | accordance with that section on or after the effective date of this |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Act. |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
