| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Sections 453.301(a-1) and (b), Occupations Code, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | are amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | (a-1) A [Except as provided by Subsection (a-2), a] physical |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | therapist may treat a patient under Subsection (a) for not more than |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | 30 [10] consecutive business days. |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (b) The physical therapist must obtain a referral from a |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | referring practitioner before the physical therapist may continue |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | treatment that exceeds treatment authorized under Subsection (a-1) |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | [or (a-2), as applicable]. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | SECTION 2. Section 453.301(a-2), Occupations Code, is |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | repealed. |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | SECTION 3. Not later than December 1, 2023, the Texas Board |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | of Physical Therapy Examiners shall adopt rules necessary to |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | implement Section 453.301, Occupations Code, as amended by this |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Act. |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
