66 AN ACT
77 relating to the provision of services by the Texas Department of
88 Criminal Justice to offenders with intellectual or developmental
99 disabilities.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. The heading to Section 501.069, Government Code,
1212 is amended to read as follows:
1313 Sec. 501.069. OFFENDERS WITH INTELLECTUAL OR DEVELOPMENTAL
1414 DISABILITIES [DEVELOPMENTALLY DISABLED OFFENDER] PROGRAM.
1515 SECTION 2. Section 501.069, Government Code, is amended by
1616 adding Subsections (c-1), (c-2), and (e) and amending Subsection
1717 (d) to read as follows:
1818 (c-1) The department shall develop and identify community
1919 resources to assist an offender described by Subsection (b) in
2020 successfully reentering and reintegrating into the community.
2121 (c-2) The department shall develop and implement a reentry
2222 and reintegration plan that is person centered and based on the
2323 individual needs of an offender described by Subsection (b). The
2424 plan may include the coordination of treatment, identification of
2525 housing assistance, and delivery of other transitional services.
2626 (d) The department may accept gifts, awards, or grants for
2727 the purpose of providing the services described by this section
2828 [Subsection (b)].
2929 (e) Funds appropriated to the department may not be expended
3030 to provide residential housing assistance to an offender described
3131 by Subsection (b) who is serving a sentence for an offense listed in
3232 Section 508.149(a).
3333 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
