77 relating to a report on recidivism rates.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Chapter 322, Government Code, is amended by
1010 adding Section 322.0195 to read as follows:
1111 Sec. 322.0195. RECIDIVISM REPORT. (a) The board shall
1212 prepare a biennial report on recidivism that includes rearrest,
1313 reconviction, and reincarceration rates. The report must include:
1414 (1) statewide rates and rates for each county in this
1515 state; and
1616 (2) information regarding:
1717 (A) individuals who have served any part of a
1818 sentence in a county jail; and
1919 (B) individuals who are rearrested, reconvicted,
2020 or reincarcerated in other states.
2121 (b) In preparing the report, the board shall collaborate
2222 with the Department of Public Safety. The Department of Public
2323 Safety shall provide any information requested by the board for the
2424 purpose of preparing the report.
2525 (c) The report may be included in any other report made by
2626 the board.
2727 (d) Not later than December 1 of each even-numbered year,
2828 the board shall submit the report to the governor, lieutenant
2929 governor, and each member of the legislature.
3030 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3131 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3232 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3333 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3434 Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
