4	5		SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
5	6		WHEREAS, The Texas Black Reconstruction Legislators
6	7		Recognition Act seeks to erect historical markers in honor of
7	8		African American legislators who served the state during the 12th
8	9		through 14th Texas Legislatures; now, therefore, be it
9	10		RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas
10	11		hereby adopt, for the purpose of the Reconstruction Texas
11	12		Legislator Historical Marker Program, the following standardized
12	13		spellings, capitalizations, dates of birth, and counties of service
13	14		to create the historical markers detailed in the Texas Black
14	15		Reconstruction Legislators Recognition Act:
15	16		● Senator George Thompson Ruby, born July 1, 1841, died
16	17		October 31, 1882, represented Galveston, Brazoria, and Matagorda
17	18		Counties in the 12th and 13th Texas Legislatures
18	19		● Senator Matthew Gaines, born August 4, 1840, died June 11,
19	20		1900, represented Washington County in the 12th and 13th Texas
20	21		Legislatures
21	22		● Senator Walter Moses Burton, born August 9, 1840, died
22	23		June 4, 1913, represented Austin, Fort Bend, and Wharton Counties
23	24		in the 14th Texas Legislature
24	25		● Representative Mitchell Kendall, born circa 1822, died
25	26		June 20, 1885, represented Harrison County in the 12th Texas

77	78		use these standardized spellings, capitalizations, dates of birth,
78	79		and counties of service for this historical marker program; and, be
79	80		it further
80	81		RESOLVED, That the Texas secretary of state forward an
81	82		official copy of this resolution to the executive director of the
82	83		Texas Historical Commission.
