44 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
55 WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is pleased to
66 recognize Shawn M. Snider on his outstanding accomplishments and on
77 his many contributions to the City of Edinburg and to the Lone Star
88 State; and
99 WHEREAS, An esteemed Texan and a devoted public servant,
1010 Shawn Snider is a respected leader in his community of Edinburg,
1111 where he resides with his wife, Edna Casas Snider, and his daughter,
1212 Sarah Elizabeth Snider; he has served as fire chief of the City of
1313 Edinburg Fire Department since 1999, and throughout his tenure of
1414 leadership, he has exemplified the highest ideals of public service
1515 with honor and integrity; and
1616 WHEREAS, Before the age of 18, Shawn Snider began his career
1717 as a firefighter by serving as a volunteer member of the City of
1818 Alamo Fire Department, where he was employed as a mechanic;
1919 realizing his life's calling, he rose through the ranks to become
2020 fire marshal for the Alamo Fire Department at the age of 24; in
2121 January of 1991, he joined the City of Edinburg Fire Department as
2222 assistant fire marshal, and in 1999, he accepted the position of
2323 fire chief of the Edinburg Fire Department and took on the role of
2424 emergency management coordinator for the city; and
2525 WHEREAS, Over the years, Chief Snider has generously devoted
2626 his time and energy on behalf of his community through his
2727 participation in many professional organizations, in which he has
2828 held key leadership roles including those of president of the State
2929 Firefighters' and Fire Marshals' Association of Texas and regional
3030 director of the Texas Fire Chiefs Association; he served for 10
3131 years as training coordinator for the Rio Grande Valley
3232 Firefighters' and Fire Marshals' Association, and his current
3333 professional and volunteer activities include serving as a fire
3434 school instructor, a search and rescue task force leader, and
3535 chairman of the Hidalgo County Fire Chiefs Association; and
3636 WHEREAS, Uncompromising in his work ethic and in his
3737 commitment to excellence, Chief Snider is certified in a multitude
3838 of areas of professional expertise; among his qualifications, he
3939 holds master certifications as a firefighter and peace officer,
4040 advanced certifications as a fire inspector and arson investigator,
4141 and he is certified as a fire executive, public manager, and
4242 emergency medical technician; and
4343 WHEREAS, Chief Snider has demonstrated great wisdom,
4444 diligence, and courage throughout his career and in carrying out
4545 the unique and multifaceted responsibilities of his position; his
4646 steadfast efforts in support of his colleagues and fellow
4747 firefighters have earned him their lasting respect and admiration,
4848 and his unwavering commitment to public service has done much to
4949 promote the safety and well-being of the Edinburg community and of
5050 citizens throughout Texas; and
5151 WHEREAS, Chief Snider's remarkable leadership and dedication
5252 to duty are a source of inspiration to all who work to benefit the
5353 greater good, and it is indeed fitting that he receive special
5454 recognition on his invaluable service to the Lone Star State; now,
5555 therefore, be it
5656 RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas
5757 hereby commend Fire Chief Shawn M. Snider on his exceptional
5858 contributions to the City of Edinburg and to the people of Texas and
5959 express to him its sincere gratitude and best wishes for the future;
6060 and, be it further
6161 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for him
6262 as an expression of high regard from the Texas Legislature.
