5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is pleased to |

6 | 6 | | recognize Shawn M. Snider on his outstanding accomplishments and on |
---|
7 | 7 | | his many contributions to the City of Edinburg and to the Lone Star |
---|
8 | 8 | | State; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, An esteemed Texan and a devoted public servant, |
---|
10 | 10 | | Shawn Snider is a respected leader in his community of Edinburg, |
---|
11 | 11 | | where he resides with his wife, Edna Casas Snider, and his daughter, |
---|
12 | 12 | | Sarah Elizabeth Snider; he has served as fire chief of the City of |
---|
13 | 13 | | Edinburg Fire Department since 1999, and throughout his tenure of |
---|
14 | 14 | | leadership, he has exemplified the highest ideals of public service |
---|
15 | 15 | | with honor and integrity; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Before the age of 18, Shawn Snider began his career |
---|
17 | 17 | | as a firefighter by serving as a volunteer member of the City of |
---|
18 | 18 | | Alamo Fire Department, where he was employed as a mechanic; |
---|
19 | 19 | | realizing his life's calling, he rose through the ranks to become |
---|
20 | 20 | | fire marshal for the Alamo Fire Department at the age of 24; in |
---|
21 | 21 | | January of 1991, he joined the City of Edinburg Fire Department as |
---|
22 | 22 | | assistant fire marshal, and in 1999, he accepted the position of |
---|
23 | 23 | | fire chief of the Edinburg Fire Department and took on the role of |
---|
24 | 24 | | emergency management coordinator for the city; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, Chief Snider has generously devoted |
---|
26 | 26 | | his time and energy on behalf of his community through his |
---|
27 | 27 | | participation in many professional organizations, in which he has |
---|
28 | 28 | | held key leadership roles including those of president of the State |
---|
29 | 29 | | Firefighters' and Fire Marshals' Association of Texas and regional |
---|
30 | 30 | | director of the Texas Fire Chiefs Association; he served for 10 |
---|
31 | 31 | | years as training coordinator for the Rio Grande Valley |
---|
32 | 32 | | Firefighters' and Fire Marshals' Association, and his current |
---|
33 | 33 | | professional and volunteer activities include serving as a fire |
---|
34 | 34 | | school instructor, a search and rescue task force leader, and |
---|
35 | 35 | | chairman of the Hidalgo County Fire Chiefs Association; and |
---|
36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Uncompromising in his work ethic and in his |
---|
37 | 37 | | commitment to excellence, Chief Snider is certified in a multitude |
---|
38 | 38 | | of areas of professional expertise; among his qualifications, he |
---|
39 | 39 | | holds master certifications as a firefighter and peace officer, |
---|
40 | 40 | | advanced certifications as a fire inspector and arson investigator, |
---|
41 | 41 | | and he is certified as a fire executive, public manager, and |
---|
42 | 42 | | emergency medical technician; and |
---|
43 | 43 | | WHEREAS, Chief Snider has demonstrated great wisdom, |
---|
44 | 44 | | diligence, and courage throughout his career and in carrying out |
---|
45 | 45 | | the unique and multifaceted responsibilities of his position; his |
---|
46 | 46 | | steadfast efforts in support of his colleagues and fellow |
---|
47 | 47 | | firefighters have earned him their lasting respect and admiration, |
---|
48 | 48 | | and his unwavering commitment to public service has done much to |
---|
49 | 49 | | promote the safety and well-being of the Edinburg community and of |
---|
50 | 50 | | citizens throughout Texas; and |
---|
51 | 51 | | WHEREAS, Chief Snider's remarkable leadership and dedication |
---|
52 | 52 | | to duty are a source of inspiration to all who work to benefit the |
---|
53 | 53 | | greater good, and it is indeed fitting that he receive special |
---|
54 | 54 | | recognition on his invaluable service to the Lone Star State; now, |
---|
55 | 55 | | therefore, be it |
---|
56 | 56 | | RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas |
---|
57 | 57 | | hereby commend Fire Chief Shawn M. Snider on his exceptional |
---|
58 | 58 | | contributions to the City of Edinburg and to the people of Texas and |
---|
59 | 59 | | express to him its sincere gratitude and best wishes for the future; |
---|

61 | 61 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for him |
