8 | 13 | | Cemetery if the State Cemetery Committee finds that the person has |

9 | 14 | | made a significant contribution to Texas history and, based on that |
---|
10 | 15 | | finding, approves the person's burial; and |
---|
11 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Patrick John Nugent, a former executive director of |
---|
12 | 17 | | the Texas Pipeline Association, is a pioneering figure who played a |
---|
13 | 18 | | vital role in improving state infrastructure and whose professional |
---|
14 | 19 | | achievements helped ensure the safety and well-being of countless |
---|
15 | 20 | | Texans, and his request for burial in the State Cemetery merits |
---|
16 | 21 | | approval by the committee; and |
---|
17 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Born on July 9, 1943, Patrick Nugent graduated from |
---|
18 | 23 | | Campion Jesuit High School in 1961 and Marquette University in |
---|
19 | 24 | | 1965; he went on to join the Texas Air National Guard, and he served |
---|
20 | 25 | | with the 315th Special Operations Wing in South Vietnam; his honors |
---|
21 | 26 | | include the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with two |
---|
22 | 27 | | oak leaf clusters; and |
---|
23 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Following his service with the Texas military, |
---|
24 | 29 | | Mr. Nugent became executive vice president of the LBJ Company, and |
---|
25 | 30 | | he was active on the boards of Texas Commerce Bank and Bank of the |
---|
26 | 31 | | Hills, as well as the Travis County Child Welfare board; he later |
---|
27 | 32 | | embarked on a rewarding career as an assistant director of the |
---|
28 | 33 | | Railroad Commission of Texas; and |
---|
29 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Nugent was elected executive director of TPA in |
---|
30 | 35 | | 1983, and over the course of his tenure, he oversaw numerous |
---|
31 | 36 | | advocacy efforts related to pipeline safety, environmental |
---|
32 | 37 | | regulations, taxation, and legislation; he further distinguished |
---|
33 | 38 | | himself through his 35 years of service as an ex officio member of |
---|
34 | 39 | | the Texas Natural Gas Reliability Council, which provides natural |
---|
35 | 40 | | gas supplies to regions affected by extreme heat or cold; and |
---|
36 | 41 | | WHEREAS, In his retirement, Mr. Nugent continues to benefit |
---|
37 | 42 | | his community as an active member and trustee of Veterans of Foreign |
---|
38 | 43 | | Wars Post No. 856; and |
---|
39 | 44 | | WHEREAS, In light of his noteworthy contributions to the Lone |
---|
40 | 45 | | Star State, it is fitting that Patrick John Nugent be allowed to |
---|
41 | 46 | | designate the State Cemetery as his final resting place; now, |
---|
42 | 47 | | therefore, be it |
---|
43 | 48 | | RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas |
---|
44 | 49 | | hereby authorize the burial of Patrick John Nugent in the State |
---|
45 | 50 | | Cemetery, provided that his application for assignment of burial |
---|
46 | 51 | | space is approved by the State Cemetery Committee as required by |
---|
47 | 52 | | law. |
