55 SENATE RESOLUTION
66 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
77 commemorates the life of Dr. Robert Stanley Wright Sr., who died
88 on December 28, 2022, at the age of 99; and
99 WHEREAS, Born on July 31, 1923, Robert Stanley Wright Sr.
1010 was an exemplary citizen and an esteemed member of the Austin
1111 community; a native Austinite and a lifelong resident of the
1212 capital city, Robert graduated from Austin High School and went
1313 on to attend The University of Texas at Austin; and
1414 WHEREAS, Robert served with distinction as a flight
1515 instructor in the United States Marines Air Corps from 1943
1616 through 1946, and he concluded his active duty with the rank of
1717 captain; after returning to Texas, he enrolled as a student at
1818 Texas Chiropractic College, and on June 21, 1947, Robert was
1919 joined in marriage with Carolyn Porter; and
2020 WHEREAS, After graduating in 1950 from Texas Chiropractic
2121 College, Robert joined his father in the Wright Family
2222 Chiropractic practice in Austin, which his father had founded in
2323 1920; he practiced alongside his father at the family's
2424 chiropractic office located on West 12th Street, where it still
2525 remains today, and he continued to serve as a trusted physician
2626 to the Austin community throughout seven decades; and
2727 WHEREAS, Dr. Bob, as he was affectionately known by many,
2828 was noted for his expertise and his personable and empathetic
2929 manner, and he was beloved by his staff and patients; in 1994, he
3030 was joined in the practice by his own son, Dr. Billy Wright, and
3131 more recently, his grandson Dr. Tyler Wright also joined the
3232 family practice; he retired in 2021, confident in leaving the
3333 practice in the hands of the third and fourth generations of
3434 Wright family chiropractors; and
3535 WHEREAS, An avid and accomplished outdoorsman, Robert took
3636 great pleasure in deer hunting; he appreciated any opportunity to
3737 exercise his skill as a pilot, and he especially enjoyed flying
3838 the surplus military plane he and a friend had purchased and kept
3939 in a hangar on Koenig Lane; he was an active member of his church
4040 community at Hyde Park Baptist Church, where he served the
4141 congregation for many years as a deacon and as a teacher and
4242 leader; and
4343 WHEREAS, Robert and his cherished wife, Carolyn, shared 64
4444 years of devoted marriage until her passing in 2011; they were
4545 blessed with a daughter, Sue Alison Peschel, and two sons, Robert
4646 Stanley Wright Jr. and James William Wright; his seven
4747 grandchildren and his 13 great-grandchildren were a source of
4848 much pride and joy to him; and
4949 WHEREAS, A beloved husband, father, and grandfather and a
5050 man of strong character and faith, his generous spirit was a
5151 source of inspiration to others, and he leaves behind memories
5252 that will be treasured by his many loved ones and by all who were
5353 privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it
5454 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
5555 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
5656 family of Robert Stanley Wright Sr.; and, be it further
5757 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
5858 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
5959 Senate.
