6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
---|
7 | 7 | | commemorates the life of Dr. Robert Stanley Wright Sr., who died |
---|
8 | 8 | | on December 28, 2022, at the age of 99; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born on July 31, 1923, Robert Stanley Wright Sr. |
---|
10 | 10 | | was an exemplary citizen and an esteemed member of the Austin |
---|
11 | 11 | | community; a native Austinite and a lifelong resident of the |
---|
12 | 12 | | capital city, Robert graduated from Austin High School and went |
---|
13 | 13 | | on to attend The University of Texas at Austin; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Robert served with distinction as a flight |
---|
15 | 15 | | instructor in the United States Marines Air Corps from 1943 |
---|
16 | 16 | | through 1946, and he concluded his active duty with the rank of |
---|
17 | 17 | | captain; after returning to Texas, he enrolled as a student at |
---|
18 | 18 | | Texas Chiropractic College, and on June 21, 1947, Robert was |
---|
19 | 19 | | joined in marriage with Carolyn Porter; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, After graduating in 1950 from Texas Chiropractic |
---|
21 | 21 | | College, Robert joined his father in the Wright Family |
---|
22 | 22 | | Chiropractic practice in Austin, which his father had founded in |
---|
23 | 23 | | 1920; he practiced alongside his father at the family's |
---|
24 | 24 | | chiropractic office located on West 12th Street, where it still |
---|
25 | 25 | | remains today, and he continued to serve as a trusted physician |
---|
26 | 26 | | to the Austin community throughout seven decades; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Bob, as he was affectionately known by many, |
---|
28 | 28 | | was noted for his expertise and his personable and empathetic |
---|
29 | 29 | | manner, and he was beloved by his staff and patients; in 1994, he |
---|
30 | 30 | | was joined in the practice by his own son, Dr. Billy Wright, and |
---|
31 | 31 | | more recently, his grandson Dr. Tyler Wright also joined the |
---|
32 | 32 | | family practice; he retired in 2021, confident in leaving the |
---|
33 | 33 | | practice in the hands of the third and fourth generations of |
---|
34 | 34 | | Wright family chiropractors; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, An avid and accomplished outdoorsman, Robert took |
---|
36 | 36 | | great pleasure in deer hunting; he appreciated any opportunity to |
---|
37 | 37 | | exercise his skill as a pilot, and he especially enjoyed flying |
---|
38 | 38 | | the surplus military plane he and a friend had purchased and kept |
---|
39 | 39 | | in a hangar on Koenig Lane; he was an active member of his church |
---|
40 | 40 | | community at Hyde Park Baptist Church, where he served the |
---|
41 | 41 | | congregation for many years as a deacon and as a teacher and |
---|
42 | 42 | | leader; and |
---|
43 | 43 | | WHEREAS, Robert and his cherished wife, Carolyn, shared 64 |
---|
44 | 44 | | years of devoted marriage until her passing in 2011; they were |
---|
45 | 45 | | blessed with a daughter, Sue Alison Peschel, and two sons, Robert |
---|
46 | 46 | | Stanley Wright Jr. and James William Wright; his seven |
---|
47 | 47 | | grandchildren and his 13 great-grandchildren were a source of |
---|
48 | 48 | | much pride and joy to him; and |
---|
49 | 49 | | WHEREAS, A beloved husband, father, and grandfather and a |
---|
50 | 50 | | man of strong character and faith, his generous spirit was a |
---|
51 | 51 | | source of inspiration to others, and he leaves behind memories |
---|
52 | 52 | | that will be treasured by his many loved ones and by all who were |
---|
53 | 53 | | privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
54 | 54 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
---|
55 | 55 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
56 | 56 | | family of Robert Stanley Wright Sr.; and, be it further |
---|
57 | 57 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
58 | 58 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
59 | 59 | | Senate. |
