| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The 80th birthday of an esteemed Texan is indeed |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | cause for celebration, and Forney Fenimore Lawing Jr. of Tyler |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | reached that impressive milestone in his life on January 8, 2023; |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Born in 1943 in Charlotte, North Carolina, "John" |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Lawing grew up in Hartsville, South Carolina; in high school, he was |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | a talented running back on the football team, and he went on to earn |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | a bachelor's degree in psychology at Wofford College, where he met |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | his future wife, Judith Cottingham; the couple married in 1966, and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | they raised a daughter, Stacey Lawing; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Lawing were teachers in Spartanburg, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | South Carolina, before they moved to Myrtle Beach in 1968; |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Mr. Lawing received a master's degree from Webster University in |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | 1977 and enjoyed a rewarding career in administration at what is now |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | known as Horry-Georgetown Technical College; he served as the dean |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | of the Myrtle Beach campus before retiring in 1996; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, That same year, Mr. and Mrs. Lawing moved to Tyler |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | to live closer to their daughter and her husband, Dr. Gerald Gray, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | and today their family also includes two grandchildren, Gerald Gray |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Jr. and Holly Gray; in his leisure time, Mr. Lawing has enjoyed |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | traveling and playing golf; a man of deep faith, he was a deacon at |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Ocean View Baptist church in Myrtle Beach, and he is currently a |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | member of Green Acres Baptist Church, where he participates in |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Sunday school class; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, John Lawing is a source of wisdom and inspiration to |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | all who are privileged to know him, and it is indeed a pleasure to |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | honor him for eight decades of life well lived; now, therefore, be |

| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature |

| 35 | 35 | | hereby congratulate Forney Fenimore Lawing Jr. on the occasion of |
