6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |

7 | 7 | | passing of Gladys Huelitt Cariker of Carthage on December 13, 2022, |

8 | 8 | | at the age of 100; and |

9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The former Gladys Huelitt Biggs was born to Augustus |
---|
10 | 10 | | Marvin Biggs Sr. and Viola Hudman Biggs in Carthage on December 21, |
---|
11 | 11 | | 1921, and she grew up with the companionship of five siblings, |
---|
12 | 12 | | Augustus, Nannie, John, Minnie, and Mary; in the course of her |
---|
13 | 13 | | career, she was employed by the Sabine Basket Factory, the |
---|
14 | 14 | | Yarborough Variety Store, and the Carthage Independent School |
---|
15 | 15 | | District tax office, and she was a bookkeeper for the Terry Farris |
---|
16 | 16 | | department store, as well as a seamstress; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Active in her community, this esteemed woman sang in |
---|
18 | 18 | | the Adult Silver Tone Choir, and she was a charter member of the |
---|
19 | 19 | | Silver Strummers of Central Baptist Church and a valued congregant |
---|
20 | 20 | | of First Baptist Church; she was also a longtime member of the |
---|
21 | 21 | | Rebekah Lodge No. 132; in her leisure time, she enjoyed horseback |
---|
22 | 22 | | riding, square dancing, and traveling; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husbands, Cary |
---|
24 | 24 | | Comer Chadwick, Dr. Allen Newsom Tiller, and John Allen Cariker; |
---|
25 | 25 | | among those left to cherish her memory are her stepsons, Allen and |
---|
26 | 26 | | Don Cariker, as well as her nephew, Lynn Travis Whitaker, and her |
---|
27 | 27 | | nieces, Carol Sue Stokes, Brenda Kay Hathaway, and Beverly Jean |
---|
28 | 28 | | Cordray; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Although Huelitt Cariker is deeply missed, those who |
---|
30 | 30 | | held her dear will forever remember the warmth and kindness she |
---|
31 | 31 | | brought into their lives; now, therefore, be it |

32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature |

33 | 33 | | hereby pay tribute to the memory of Gladys Huelitt Cariker and |

34 | 34 | | extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her |

35 | 35 | | stepsons, Allen Cariker and his wife, Bobbie, and Don Cariker and |

36 | 36 | | his wife, Janice; to her nephew, Lynn Travis Whitaker, and his wife, |

37 | 37 | | Linda; to her nieces, Carol Sue Stokes and her husband, Jeff, Brenda |
