| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | recognize the Endeavors Veteran Wellness Center in San Antonio |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | for improving the lives of disabled veterans and their families; |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Endeavors is a faith-based nonprofit that was |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | founded as San Antonio Urban Ministries by inner-city churches in |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | 1969; renamed in 2018, the center advocates for a holistic |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | approach to veteran integration and reincorporation into civil |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | society; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The center has done much to support children, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | families, veterans, survivors of natural disasters, and people |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | struggling with mental illness by offering them a host of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | physical, emotional, and mental wellness services, including |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | family counseling, crisis intervention, group therapy, parenting |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | classes, fitness programs, child care, and life skills and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | vocational training; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Endeavors partners with governmental agencies |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and national and local organizations to address homelessness, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | child abuse, and unemployment within the veteran population; |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Endeavors' Veteran Supportive Services offers homelessness |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | prevention and rapid rehousing, and in 2021, the agency opened |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the Veteran Wellness Center in San Antonio, a first-of-its-kind |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | care clinic that addresses all aspects of health; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, During the COVID-19 pandemic, Endeavors and other |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | support organizations established two emergency centers in El |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Paso that served as points of entry for a network of area |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | shelters; the center secured a 50 percent funding increase for |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | COVID-impacted veterans and provided housing assistance to 200 |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | clients in Houston who lost housing as a result of the pandemic; |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | and |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, In its 50 years of existence, Endeavors has |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | served nearly 30,000 clients in Texas, Florida, North Carolina, |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | and Puerto Rico and has empowered countless people to become |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | integrated individuals who provide for their families and |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | contribute to their communities; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | Legislature, hereby commend Endeavors Veteran Wellness Center on |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | its exceptional service to vulnerable people in crisis and extend |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | to all those associated with this noteworthy organization |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|---|
| 46 | 46 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 47 | 47 | | Endeavors as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
