| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | join the residents of Bastrop County and Texans across the state |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | in celebrating February 22, 2023, as Bastrop County Day at the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Texas Capitol; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Bastrop County traces its roots to the beginning |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | of colonization in Texas, which began with the establishment of |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Spanish missions and military settlements and was later |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | envisioned by Moses Austin and fulfilled by his son Stephen F. |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Austin; a town steeped in history, three Bastropians signed the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Texas Declaration of Independence, and a number of the county's |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | residents were soldiers who fought at the Battle of the Alamo and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | at the Battle of San Jacinto; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The town of Bastrop, originally named "Mina" in |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | honor or Francisco Xavier Mina, a Mexican revolutionary hero, was |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | established as the principal settlement in the Stephen F. Austin |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Little Colony of 1827; after the Civil War and the arrival of the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Texas Central Railroad, the area experienced significant growth, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and extensive timber and coal operations were a driving force in |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | the county's development; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Bastrop County has played an important role |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | throughout the history of the Lone Star State, and today, the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | county is a thriving center for tourism, filmmaking, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | agriculture, and manufacturing; the natural beauty, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | opportunities, and sense of community offered to Bastrop |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | County's residents continue to make it a wonderful place to live, |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | work, and raise a family, and the citizens of Bastrop County can |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | look forward with confidence to a bright future as they celebrate |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | their rich and colorful history; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Legislature, hereby commend the people of Bastrop County on their |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | many contributions to the growth and prosperity of our state and |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | extend to all best wishes for a memorable Bastrop County Day at |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | the Capitol; and, be it further |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | honor of this special occasion. |
