66 WHEREAS, The Jacksboro High School cheerleading team
77 furthered its legacy of excellence by winning the 3A Division 2
88 title at the 2023 University Interscholastic League Spirit State
99 Championships and by finishing third at the 2023 National
1010 Cheerleaders Association High School National Championship; and
1111 WHEREAS, At the UIL event, held January 12 to 14 in Fort
1212 Worth, the Tigers were awarded top honors in the crowd leading and
1313 fight song categories and posted an overall score of 90.10,
1414 outdistancing their closest opponent by nearly five points to earn
1515 the 3A Division 2 crown; the victory gave the school its third state
1616 championship in the past four years in addition to a runner-up
1717 finish in 2021; and
1818 WHEREAS, On January 21 and 22, Jacksboro traveled to Dallas
1919 to make the school's first appearance at the NCA High School
2020 National Championship; building on their first place finishes at
2121 the NCA State and Virtual competitions, the Tigers captured third
2222 place in the Game Day Varsity Medium Division with scores of 95.53
2323 in the performance round and 94.96 in the event round; and
2424 WHEREAS, The Tigers were led by captains Emma Owen, Abbie
2525 Payson, and Avory Silar and benefited from the valuable
2626 contributions made by the other members of the roster: Bryston
2727 Roberts, Landrie Valenzuela, Breezy Green, Jissel Luna, Lyla
2828 Pankey, Miranda Piedra, Lexi Smith, Raygan Barnett, Salia
2929 Buenrostro, Madison Collins, Ruby Flores, Lizzy Gonzales, Ashleigh
3030 Guthrie, Kennedy Lowther, Brooke Reaves, Trinitee Sanders, Jasmine
3131 Soria, Lileigh Taylor, and Laken Valenzuela; the squad was ably
3232 guided by head coach Jaci Pippen and assistant coaches Stacey
3333 Wardrup and Haley Laake; and
3434 WHEREAS, By winning consecutive state championships and
3535 succeeding at a premier national competition, the Jacksboro Tigers
3636 have demonstrated exceptional skill, dedication, and teamwork, and
3737 they are a source of great pride to their school and community; now,
3838 therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature
4040 hereby congratulate the Jacksboro High School cheerleading team on
4141 winning the UIL 3A Division 2 state championship and finishing
4242 third at the 2023 NCA High School National Championship and extend
4343 to all those associated with the team sincere best wishes for
4444 continued success; and, be it further
4545 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4646 prepared for the Jacksboro High School cheerleading team as an
4747 expression of high regard by the Texas Senate.
