55 R E S O L U T I O N
66 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
77 passing of Vivion Eugene Mitcham of Gladewater on March 14, 2022, at
88 the age of 93; and
99 WHEREAS, "Mitch" Mitcham was born in Sharp on April 22, 1928,
1010 to Vivion and Blanche Mitcham, and he grew up with three siblings,
1111 Doris, J. W., and Odell; following his graduation from Sharp High
1212 School in 1945, he joined the U.S. Merchant Marine and later became
1313 a member of the U.S. Army; and
1414 WHEREAS, A skilled entrepreneur, Mr. Mitcham enjoyed success
1515 in a number of fields, ranging from cotton and ostrich farming to
1616 ranching, surveying, contracting, and home building; through the
1717 years, he also worked as a painter, mechanic, restaurateur,
1818 boutique owner, and gold miner; in addition, he was a golf course
1919 owner and operator, and he played at courses around the world; and
2020 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Mitcham benefited from the
2121 love and support of his wife, the former Margaret Elaine Stewart,
2222 and they shared a rewarding marriage spanning more than five and a
2323 half decades before her death in 2020; he was the devoted father of
2424 three children, Ronald, Randy, and Mark, and he knew the joy of
2525 welcoming two grandchildren into his treasured family; admired for
2626 his strong faith, he served as a deacon at First Baptist Church
2727 Gladewater and as deacon chair at Friendship Baptist Church; and
2828 WHEREAS, Although Vivion Mitcham is deeply missed, he has
2929 left his loved ones with a wealth of memories that they will forever
3030 cherish; now, therefore, be it
3131 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature
3232 hereby pay tribute to the life of Vivion Eugene Mitcham and extend
3333 sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his sons,
3434 Ronald Eugene Mitcham, Randy Mitcham, and Mark Preston Mitcham and
3535 his wife, Stacey; to his granddaughters, Kaylee Mitcham and Keatin
3636 "Kitty" Mitcham; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it
3737 further
3838 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3939 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this
4040 day, it do so in memory of Vivion Mitcham.
