6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |

7 | 7 | | passing of Vivion Eugene Mitcham of Gladewater on March 14, 2022, at |
---|
8 | 8 | | the age of 93; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, "Mitch" Mitcham was born in Sharp on April 22, 1928, |
---|
10 | 10 | | to Vivion and Blanche Mitcham, and he grew up with three siblings, |
---|
11 | 11 | | Doris, J. W., and Odell; following his graduation from Sharp High |
---|
12 | 12 | | School in 1945, he joined the U.S. Merchant Marine and later became |
---|
13 | 13 | | a member of the U.S. Army; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, A skilled entrepreneur, Mr. Mitcham enjoyed success |
---|
15 | 15 | | in a number of fields, ranging from cotton and ostrich farming to |
---|
16 | 16 | | ranching, surveying, contracting, and home building; through the |
---|
17 | 17 | | years, he also worked as a painter, mechanic, restaurateur, |
---|
18 | 18 | | boutique owner, and gold miner; in addition, he was a golf course |
---|
19 | 19 | | owner and operator, and he played at courses around the world; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Mitcham benefited from the |
---|
21 | 21 | | love and support of his wife, the former Margaret Elaine Stewart, |
---|
22 | 22 | | and they shared a rewarding marriage spanning more than five and a |
---|
23 | 23 | | half decades before her death in 2020; he was the devoted father of |
---|
24 | 24 | | three children, Ronald, Randy, and Mark, and he knew the joy of |
---|
25 | 25 | | welcoming two grandchildren into his treasured family; admired for |
---|
26 | 26 | | his strong faith, he served as a deacon at First Baptist Church |
---|
27 | 27 | | Gladewater and as deacon chair at Friendship Baptist Church; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Although Vivion Mitcham is deeply missed, he has |
---|
29 | 29 | | left his loved ones with a wealth of memories that they will forever |
---|
30 | 30 | | cherish; now, therefore, be it |
---|
31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature |
---|
32 | 32 | | hereby pay tribute to the life of Vivion Eugene Mitcham and extend |
---|
33 | 33 | | sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his sons, |
---|
34 | 34 | | Ronald Eugene Mitcham, Randy Mitcham, and Mark Preston Mitcham and |
---|
35 | 35 | | his wife, Stacey; to his granddaughters, Kaylee Mitcham and Keatin |
---|
36 | 36 | | "Kitty" Mitcham; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it |
