| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | commemorates the life of Terence James Fitzwater, who died on |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | January 31, 2023, at the age of 65; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Terry Fitzwater was born on July 3, 1957, in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Phoenix, Arizona; he attended Central Michigan University and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Rutgers University School of Law before beginning a long and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | fulfilling career in journalism; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, A highly accomplished writer, editor, and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | publisher, Terry worked in the newspaper business for four |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | decades; he won numerous awards and served on many state and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | local press associations in Michigan, New Mexico, and Texas; as |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the publisher of the Kingsville Record in Kingsville, Texas, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Terry was an advocate for free speech and highlighted stories of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | those who serve the public, especially stories about World War II |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | and Vietnam War veterans; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Terry was an avid traveler, history buff, and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | University of Michigan football fan; he delighted in auto racing; |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | in attending concerts, watching movies, playing games and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | exploring the great outdoors; a man of deep faith and devotion to |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | service, he attended Saint Gertrude the Great Catholic Church in |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Kingsville and was an active member of the Elks and Rotary |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | International organizations; above all, Terry cherished his |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | family and time spent with his four children and six |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, A respected leader in his field and a trusted |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | friend to many, Terence Fitzwater was a highly esteemed citizen |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | who was a source of inspiration to those who knew him through his |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | fierce dedication to his values and his enthusiasm for enjoying |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | and living each day to the fullest; his memory will long be |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | cherished with respect and admiration by his loved ones and by |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | all who were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | it |

| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | family of Terence James Fitzwater; and, be it further |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | memory of Terence J. Fitzwater. |
