| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Averie Bishop of The Colony was crowned Miss Texas |

| 7 | 7 | | 2022 at the Eisemann Center in Richardson on June 25, 2022; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Bishop competed in the statewide event as Miss |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Carrollton, and she is the first Asian American woman to win the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | title of Miss Texas; in December 2022, she advanced to the Miss |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | America Competition and was named second runner-up, making her the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | highest-placing Miss Texas in 15 years; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, In her role as Miss Texas, Ms. Bishop travels across |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the world for speaking engagements and appearances, where she |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | addresses topics such as mental health and social media; by |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | advocating through her social platforms and acting as an ambassador |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | for the Texas Cares for Children program, she hopes to make every |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | child feel at home; she is also the author of a children's book, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Miss Melody the Marigold, and all proceeds go to her nonprofit, The |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Tulong Foundation; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Bishop is a first-generation law school |

| 22 | 22 | | graduate from the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Law, and she also holds a certification in finance from Harvard |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Business School; furthermore, she is a small business owner and an |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | international nonprofit CEO, and she is the youngest committee |

| 26 | 26 | | member of the anti-hate advisory council to Mayor Eric Johnson in |

| 27 | 27 | | Dallas; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Averie Bishop has proven herself to be a deserving |

| 29 | 29 | | recipient of the Miss Texas crown, and the hard work, |

| 30 | 30 | | determination, and perseverance that she has demonstrated in |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | attaining this goal are certain to serve her well in her future |

| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature |
