6 | 6 | | to a close with the passing of Michael E. Custy of Lubbock on |

7 | 7 | | February 5, 2023, at the age of 75; and |

8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born to Edward and Mary Ann Custy on October 28, |
---|
9 | 9 | | 1947, in Denver, Colorado, Michael Custy graduated from Abraham |
---|
10 | 10 | | Lincoln High School in June 1966; answering his nation's call to |
---|
11 | 11 | | duty, he joined the U.S. Air Force and completed five tours in the |
---|
12 | 12 | | Vietnam War; he retired after 22 years of service at the rank of |
---|
13 | 13 | | senior master sergeant with numerous honors, including the |
---|
14 | 14 | | Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, and |
---|
15 | 15 | | Outstanding Unit Award with valor; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Following his return to civilian life, Mr. Custy |
---|
17 | 17 | | earned a bachelor's degree from Wayland Baptist University and a |
---|
18 | 18 | | master's degree from Houston Baptist University; he went on to |
---|
19 | 19 | | embark on a fulfilling career with the State of Texas, and he |
---|
20 | 20 | | retired after 29 years as the regional program support director |
---|
21 | 21 | | for the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services in |
---|
22 | 22 | | Lubbock; he also taught business courses at South Plains College, |
---|
23 | 23 | | and in his leisure time, he enjoyed playing golf; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Custy married the love of his life, "Ping," on |
---|
25 | 25 | | May 22, 1974, and the couple shared a rewarding union that |
---|
26 | 26 | | spanned nearly a half century; they raised four children, Aranya, |
---|
27 | 27 | | Sara, Heather, and Elizabeth, and their treasured family grew to |
---|
28 | 28 | | include two grandsons and a great-granddaughter; a man of faith, |
---|
29 | 29 | | he was an active congregant at Christ the King Cathedral in |
---|
30 | 30 | | Lubbock; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, While the passing of Michael Custy brings great |
---|
32 | 32 | | sorrow to his loved ones, he leaves behind a legacy that will long |
---|
33 | 33 | | be treasured by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it |
---|
34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
---|
35 | 35 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Michael E. Custy |
---|
36 | 36 | | and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to |
---|
37 | 37 | | his wife, Ngarmpis Custy; to his daughters, Aranya Suyabodha, |
---|
38 | 38 | | Sara Rush, Heather Weber, and Elizabeth McCormick; to his |

39 | 39 | | grandchildren, Brian Williams and Mike Weber; to his |
---|
40 | 40 | | great-grandchild, Charlotte Williams; to his siblings, Danny, |

41 | 41 | | Tim, Pat, Dennis, and Kevin Custy, Kay Moore, Colleen Lorenz, |

42 | 42 | | Maureen Roben, and Eileen Hendee; and to his other relatives and |
