55 WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew
66 to a close with the passing of Michael E. Custy of Lubbock on
77 February 5, 2023, at the age of 75; and
88 WHEREAS, Born to Edward and Mary Ann Custy on October 28,
99 1947, in Denver, Colorado, Michael Custy graduated from Abraham
1010 Lincoln High School in June 1966; answering his nation's call to
1111 duty, he joined the U.S. Air Force and completed five tours in the
1212 Vietnam War; he retired after 22 years of service at the rank of
1313 senior master sergeant with numerous honors, including the
1414 Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, and
1515 Outstanding Unit Award with valor; and
1616 WHEREAS, Following his return to civilian life, Mr. Custy
1717 earned a bachelor's degree from Wayland Baptist University and a
1818 master's degree from Houston Baptist University; he went on to
1919 embark on a fulfilling career with the State of Texas, and he
2020 retired after 29 years as the regional program support director
2121 for the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services in
2222 Lubbock; he also taught business courses at South Plains College,
2323 and in his leisure time, he enjoyed playing golf; and
2424 WHEREAS, Mr. Custy married the love of his life, "Ping," on
2525 May 22, 1974, and the couple shared a rewarding union that
2626 spanned nearly a half century; they raised four children, Aranya,
2727 Sara, Heather, and Elizabeth, and their treasured family grew to
2828 include two grandsons and a great-granddaughter; a man of faith,
2929 he was an active congregant at Christ the King Cathedral in
3030 Lubbock; and
3131 WHEREAS, While the passing of Michael Custy brings great
3232 sorrow to his loved ones, he leaves behind a legacy that will long
3333 be treasured by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
3535 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Michael E. Custy
3636 and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to
3737 his wife, Ngarmpis Custy; to his daughters, Aranya Suyabodha,
3838 Sara Rush, Heather Weber, and Elizabeth McCormick; to his
3939 grandchildren, Brian Williams and Mike Weber; to his
4040 great-grandchild, Charlotte Williams; to his siblings, Danny,
4141 Tim, Pat, Dennis, and Kevin Custy, Kay Moore, Colleen Lorenz,
4242 Maureen Roben, and Eileen Hendee; and to his other relatives and
4343 friends; and, be it further
4444 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
4545 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
4646 this day, it do so in memory of Michael Custy.
