No. 18 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the passing of Catherine Jean Morlen of Longview on July 24, 2022, at the age of 69; and WHEREAS, The daughter of Eleanor and Jerome Peitz, the former Cathy Peitz was born on April 2, 1953, and she grew up with eight siblings, Steve, Mary Ann, Geraldine, Janet, Anita, LeRoy, Ernest, and Patricia; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Morlen shared a fulfilling marriage of 46 years with her husband, Sam Morlen, and she took great pride in their daughters, Leslie Patrick and the late April McCarty; over the years, Mrs. Morlen had the pleasure of welcoming into her treasured family five grandchildren, Gage, Peyton, Jordan, Cayden, and the late Catie McCarty, as well as four great-grandchildren, Carter, Dawson, Landon, and Auriella; and WHEREAS, Although she was born with a degenerative bone disease, Mrs. Morlen refused to allow her condition to hold her back from experiencing life; she found strength and solace in her faith, and she gave generously of her time and talents to sing in her church's choir; in addition, she enjoyed gardening, and she rescued numerous cats and dogs over the years; and WHEREAS, Cathy Morlen led a life of caring devotion to her loved ones, and while she is deeply missed, she will forever hold a special place in the hearts of all those who were fortunate enough to know her; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Catherine Jean Morlen and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her husband, Sherman "Sam" Morlen; to her daughter, Leslie Patrick; to her grandchildren, Gage Patrick and his fiancée, Kaycie Hills, Peyton Catherine and her husband, Dillon Campbell, Jordan McCarty, and Cayden McCarty; to her great-grandchildren, Carter Campbell, Dawson Campbell, Landon Acuna, and Auriella McCarty; to her siblings, Steve Peitz, Mary Ann Peitz, Geraldine Norton, Janet Ledford, and Anita Mitchell; and to her other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Cathy Morlen.
