2	2	WHEREAS, Manufacturers in Texas play an integral role in
3	3	the state's economy and development, and their important
4	4	contributions merit special recognition; and
5	5	WHEREAS, Texas manufacturing contributes more than
6	6	$241 billion to the state's economy, totaling 13 percent of the
7	7	gross output in the state; because of this outstanding level of
8	8	production, Texas is the nation's leading exporter of
9	9	manufactured goods, with items made in Texas representing over
10	10	$200 billion of the manufactured products exported from the
11	11	United States; and
12	12	WHEREAS, Approximately 881,000 Texans work in the sector,
13	13	receiving an average annual compensation of over $90,000; these
14	14	positions spur subsequent growth, with every new manufacturing
15	15	job leading to the creation of between 2 to 16 additional
16	16	openings; moreover, manufacturing is responsible for more than
17	17	60 percent of all private sector research and development
18	18	spending; and
19	19	WHEREAS, The wide variety of products manufactured in
20	20	Texas includes chemicals, computers and semiconductors,
21	21	electronics, machinery, petroleum and coal goods,
22	22	pharmaceuticals and medical devices, food and beverage items,
23	23	agricultural products, aerospace products, motor vehicles,
24	24	plastics, textiles, and rubber; this broad diversity is key to
25	25	maintaining a competitive advantage in an increasingly global
26	26	economy; and
27	27	WHEREAS, Across the state, the industry is represented by
28	28	such central professional associations as the Texas Association
29	29	of Manufacturers, as well as myriad regional associations,
30	30	including San Antonio, North Texas, Dallas County, South Texas,
31	31	Harlingen, San Marcos, New Braunfels, Washington County, Greater
32	32	Houston, Harris County, and Austin Regional; and
33	33	WHEREAS, Manufacturers drive innovation, create well-paid
34	34	job opportunities for many Texans, and contribute to the future
35	35	economic health of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
36	36	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
37	37	Legislature, hereby recognize February 21, 2023, as Texas
38	38	Manufacturers' Day and extend to all those associated with these
39	39	vital businesses sincere best wishes for continued success.
