11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 185
22 WHEREAS, Manufacturers in Texas play an integral role in
33 the state's economy and development, and their important
44 contributions merit special recognition; and
55 WHEREAS, Texas manufacturing contributes more than
66 $241 billion to the state's economy, totaling 13 percent of the
77 gross output in the state; because of this outstanding level of
88 production, Texas is the nation's leading exporter of
99 manufactured goods, with items made in Texas representing over
1010 $200 billion of the manufactured products exported from the
1111 United States; and
1212 WHEREAS, Approximately 881,000 Texans work in the sector,
1313 receiving an average annual compensation of over $90,000; these
1414 positions spur subsequent growth, with every new manufacturing
1515 job leading to the creation of between 2 to 16 additional
1616 openings; moreover, manufacturing is responsible for more than
1717 60 percent of all private sector research and development
1818 spending; and
1919 WHEREAS, The wide variety of products manufactured in
2020 Texas includes chemicals, computers and semiconductors,
2121 electronics, machinery, petroleum and coal goods,
2222 pharmaceuticals and medical devices, food and beverage items,
2323 agricultural products, aerospace products, motor vehicles,
2424 plastics, textiles, and rubber; this broad diversity is key to
2525 maintaining a competitive advantage in an increasingly global
2626 economy; and
2727 WHEREAS, Across the state, the industry is represented by
2828 such central professional associations as the Texas Association
2929 of Manufacturers, as well as myriad regional associations,
3030 including San Antonio, North Texas, Dallas County, South Texas,
3131 Harlingen, San Marcos, New Braunfels, Washington County, Greater
3232 Houston, Harris County, and Austin Regional; and
3333 WHEREAS, Manufacturers drive innovation, create well-paid
3434 job opportunities for many Texans, and contribute to the future
3535 economic health of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
3636 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
3737 Legislature, hereby recognize February 21, 2023, as Texas
3838 Manufacturers' Day and extend to all those associated with these
3939 vital businesses sincere best wishes for continued success.
