| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Gillespie County sheriff Buddy Mills, the |

| 3 | 3 | | president of the Sheriffs' Association of Texas, is being honored |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | for his distinguished career in law enforcement on the occasion |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | of Sheriffs' Association of Texas Day at the State Capitol on |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | February 22, 2023; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, A native of San Antonio, Sheriff Mills pursued |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | studies at Texas A&M University-Kingsville and later San Antonio |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | College; he began working as a game warden for the Texas Parks and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Wildlife Department in 1980, when he was 21 years old; after |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | being assigned to Eagle Lake in Colorado County for 12 years, he |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | transferred to Gillespie County, where he served for another 15 |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | years until his retirement in 2007; during his time as a game |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | warden, he traveled across the state for special wildlife and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | fishing operations, took part in search and rescue missions, and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | assisted with natural disaster response and recovery efforts, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | including in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed law enforcement professional made a |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | successful bid for the office of Gillespie County sheriff in |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | 2008; after fulfilling his duties as sheriff for over a decade, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | he had the honor of being elected president of the Sheriffs' |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Association of Texas in July 2022, notably becoming the first |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | former Texas game warden to hold the title; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Sheriff Mills enjoys the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | love and support of his wife of 43 years, Heidi Mills, as well as |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | his two children and five grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, The Sheriffs' Association of Texas is fortunate to |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | benefit from the leadership, dedication, and experience that Buddy |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Mills brings to the role of president, and he may indeed take |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | justifiable pride in his lifelong efforts to serve and protect the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | citizens of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby recognize Sheriff Buddy Mills on the occasion |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | of Sheriffs' Association of Texas Day at the State Capitol and |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success in his |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | tenure as the organization's president; and, be it further |

| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |

| 38 | 38 | | prepared for Sheriff Mills as an expression of high regard from |
