| 3 | 3 | | at the State Capitol on February 21, 2023, provides a welcome |

| 4 | 4 | | opportunity to recognize this notable institution; and |

| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, One of the largest universities in the state, UNT |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | posted a record-breaking enrollment for the fourth consecutive |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | year in the fall 2022 semester, with more than 44,500 students |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | working toward degrees; the school's increasing enrollment |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | continues to magnify its impact in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | where it contributes an estimated $1.65 billion to the economy |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | annually; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, UNT offers a wide range of innovative, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | internationally ranked programs that not only foster students' |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | academic and intellectual development but also offer leadership |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and service opportunities; its faculty members conduct |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | groundbreaking research in such areas as plant science, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | materials science and engineering, and logistics, which spurs |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | innovation and technological advancement in a thriving business |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | corridor; many of the school's more than 476,000 alumni have gone |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | on to distinguish themselves in their fields of endeavor, and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | graduates of the UNT College of Music, which is recognized as one |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | of the nation's best, largest, and most comprehensive music |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | departments, have received 119 Grammy Awards to date; and |

| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, In recognition of its research programs and their |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | impact, UNT has been awarded the R1 classification, the highest |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | rank given to research universities by the Carnegie |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Classifications of Institutions of Higher Education; the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | university has also been designated as a Minority Serving |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Institution, as well as a Hispanic Serving Institution by the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | U.S. Department of Education; committed to providing |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | high-quality, affordable higher education opportunities, UNT has |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | kept the cost of tuition flat for more than five years and taken |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | measures to reduce student debt and to shorten the time to degree |

| 35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Throughout its history, UNT has built a |

| 36 | 36 | | commendable reputation for academic excellence, research, and |

| 38 | 38 | | Texas region and beyond; now, therefore, be it |

| 39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |

| 40 | 40 | | Legislature, hereby recognize February 21, 2023, as University |
