No. 197 SENATE RESOLUTION WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences at Prairie View A&M University on its outstanding contributions to higher education in the Lone Star State; and WHEREAS, The College of Agriculture and Human Sciences at Prairie View A&M University is a land-grant institution founded in 1876 and dedicated to achieving excellence in teaching, research, and service; the college offers an extensive curriculum in the disciplines that pertain to natural resources, food, and agriculture and creates learning opportunities for students to prepare them to respond to the challenges of the future with intelligence, expertise, and wisdom; and WHEREAS, A competitive learning institution dedicated to education, service, and research in agricultural education, human ecology, and nutrition, the college is committed to academic excellence and to the promotion of health and wellness in its students and in the communities it serves; and WHEREAS, Throughout its history, the college has focused on strengthening its four pillars: academics, research, educational extension services, and farming; these pedagogical branches have advanced the college's ethos of supporting farmers and spreading agricultural and nutritional education to both rural and urban communities in Texas; and WHEREAS, The college is a highly valued resource for the farmers and agricultural producers that it serves, as more than 90 percent of agricultural operations in Texas are family farms, partnerships, and family-held corporations; its academic unit, extension program, and research center do much to benefit underrepresented and underserved communities, and it is truly fitting that the college receive special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th Legislature, hereby commend all who have contributed their efforts and support to the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences at Prairie View A&M University and join in celebrating this exemplary institution for its many successes and its outstanding contributions to Texans and to the Lone Star State; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the college as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
