| 5 | 5 | | higher education in the Lone Star State; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The College of Agriculture and Human Sciences at |

| 7 | 7 | | Prairie View A&M University is a land-grant institution founded |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | in 1876 and dedicated to achieving excellence in teaching, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | research, and service; the college offers an extensive |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | curriculum in the disciplines that pertain to natural resources, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | food, and agriculture and creates learning opportunities for |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | students to prepare them to respond to the challenges of the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | future with intelligence, expertise, and wisdom; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, A competitive learning institution dedicated to |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | education, service, and research in agricultural education, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | human ecology, and nutrition, the college is committed to |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | academic excellence and to the promotion of health and wellness |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | in its students and in the communities it serves; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Throughout its history, the college has focused |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | on strengthening its four pillars: academics, research, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | educational extension services, and farming; these pedagogical |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | branches have advanced the college's ethos of supporting farmers |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and spreading agricultural and nutritional education to both |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | rural and urban communities in Texas; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The college is a highly valued resource for the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | farmers and agricultural producers that it serves, as more than |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | 90 percent of agricultural operations in Texas are family farms, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | partnerships, and family-held corporations; its academic unit, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | extension program, and research center do much to benefit |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | underrepresented and underserved communities, and it is truly |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | fitting that the college receive special recognition; now, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | therefore, be it |

| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |

| 34 | 34 | | Legislature, hereby commend all who have contributed their |

| 35 | 35 | | efforts and support to the College of Agriculture and Human |

| 36 | 36 | | Sciences at Prairie View A&M University and join in celebrating |

|---|
| 38 | 38 | | outstanding contributions to Texans and to the Lone Star State; |
