27 WHEREAS, Representatives of the Texas Ports Association
38 are gathering in Austin for Texas Ports Day at the State Capitol
49 on February 21, 2023; and
5- WHEREAS, An essential element of the state's economy, which
6- is the ninth-largest economy in the world, Texas ports play an
7- integral role in the international supply chain; the system

12+ an integral role in the international supply chain; the system
813 boasts the largest container port on the Gulf Coast, the largest
914 breakbulk gateway in the U.S., the leading energy export gateway
1015 in the nation, and the largest port in the country in total
1116 revenue tonnage; ranked second in the U.S. in waterborne
1217 commerce, Texas ports handle 616.2 million tons of foreign and
1318 domestic cargo, generate $449.6 billion of total economic value
1419 for the state, and impact more than 1.8 million jobs; a recent
1520 Global Trade article lauded the state with the greatest cluster
1621 of power ports among the top 20 list; moreover, three Texas ports
1722 are designated as strategic military ports by the
1823 U.S. Department of Defense, providing surface deployment and
1924 worldwide distribution for military cargo; and
20- WHEREAS, The Texas Ports Association is an alliance of more
21- than 20 maritime ports along the Gulf Coast, and it represents a
22- number of import and export industries; the organization
23- advocates for infrastructure projects that will help supply
24- chain constraints, enhance port efficiency, improve the movement
25- of freight through intermodal systems, create new jobs, and
26- attract private investment; and

3237 economic vitality of the Lone Star State, and all those
3338 associated with the Texas Ports Association are deserving of
3439 recognition for their support and advocacy; now, therefore, be it
35- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
36- Legislature, hereby recognize Texas Ports Day at the State
37- Capitol on February 21, 2023, and extend a warm welcome to the
38- visiting members of the Texas Ports Association.
