2	7		WHEREAS, Representatives of the Texas Ports Association
3	8		are gathering in Austin for Texas Ports Day at the State Capitol
4	9		on February 21, 2023; and
5		-	WHEREAS, An essential element of the state's economy, ~~which~~
6		-	is the ninth-largest economy in the world, Texas ports play an
7		-	integral role in the international supply chain; the system

8	13		boasts the largest container port on the Gulf Coast, the largest
9	14		breakbulk gateway in the U.S., the leading energy export gateway
10	15		in the nation, and the largest port in the country in total
11	16		revenue tonnage; ranked second in the U.S. in waterborne
12	17		commerce, Texas ports handle 616.2 million tons of foreign and
13	18		domestic cargo, generate $449.6 billion of total economic value
14	19		for the state, and impact more than 1.8 million jobs; a recent
15	20		Global Trade article lauded the state with the greatest cluster
16	21		of power ports among the top 20 list; moreover, three Texas ports
17	22		are designated as strategic military ports by the
18	23		U.S. Department of Defense, providing surface deployment and
19	24		worldwide distribution for military cargo; and
20		-	WHEREAS, The Texas Ports Association is an alliance of ~~more~~
21		-	than 20 maritime ports along the Gulf Coast, and it ~~represents a~~

31	36		WHEREAS, Texas ports contribute tremendously to the
32	37		economic vitality of the Lone Star State, and all those
33	38		associated with the Texas Ports Association are deserving of
34	39		recognition for their support and advocacy; now, therefore, be it
35		-	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
36		-	Legislature, hereby recognize Texas Ports Day at the State
37		-	Capitol on February 21, 2023, and extend a warm welcome to the
