| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | passing of Billy Wayne Hicks of Tyler on January 17, 2022, at the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | age of 92; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Gover Deller Warren Hicks and Hubert Hall |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Hicks, Billy Hicks was born in Lindale on May 22, 1929, and he grew |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | up with the companionship of two sisters, Dorothy and Glenda; he |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | attended Lindale schools, where he played baseball and was vice |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | president of the Future Farmers of America; answering his nation's |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | call to duty, he joined the United States Army and rose to the rank |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | of sergeant; during his time in the service, he was stationed in |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | California, Korea, and Japan; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, In 1952, Mr. Hicks met the love of his life, the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | former Sallie Sue West, at an American Legion dance; they married |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the following year and went on to share a fulfilling union that |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | spanned nearly 60 years until her passing in 2012; the couple were |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | blessed with four sons, Billy, Mark, Phil, and Jimmy, and their |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | family eventually grew to include four grandchildren, Matt, Alisha, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Brett, and Mark Thomas, and seven great-grandchildren, Dylan, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Brett, Jayse, Bo Thomas, Eisley, Luna, and Caleb; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Hicks enjoyed a rewarding 42-year career at King |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Chevrolet, and in his leisure hours, he liked following sports, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | especially The University of Texas Longhorns, the Tyler Junior |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | College Apaches, the Dallas Cowboys, the Texas Rangers, and the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Dallas Mavericks; he loved practicing baseball in the backyard with |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | his boys, and he coached the Orr Eagles Little League baseball team, |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | helping them to win two Tyler city championships; he also liked |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | traveling with his family, especially to Disney World and Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Rangers games; he was a valued congregant of Tyland Baptist Church |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | and Pine Brook Baptist Church; and |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Although Billy Hicks is greatly missed, he has left |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | his loved ones with many treasured memories, and he will forever |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | hold a special place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | hereby pay tribute to the life of Billy Wayne Hicks and extend |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be it further |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | day, it do so in memory of Billy Hicks. |
