55 R E S O L U T I O N
66 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
77 passing of Billy Wayne Hicks of Tyler on January 17, 2022, at the
88 age of 92; and
99 WHEREAS, The son of Gover Deller Warren Hicks and Hubert Hall
1010 Hicks, Billy Hicks was born in Lindale on May 22, 1929, and he grew
1111 up with the companionship of two sisters, Dorothy and Glenda; he
1212 attended Lindale schools, where he played baseball and was vice
1313 president of the Future Farmers of America; answering his nation's
1414 call to duty, he joined the United States Army and rose to the rank
1515 of sergeant; during his time in the service, he was stationed in
1616 California, Korea, and Japan; and
1717 WHEREAS, In 1952, Mr. Hicks met the love of his life, the
1818 former Sallie Sue West, at an American Legion dance; they married
1919 the following year and went on to share a fulfilling union that
2020 spanned nearly 60 years until her passing in 2012; the couple were
2121 blessed with four sons, Billy, Mark, Phil, and Jimmy, and their
2222 family eventually grew to include four grandchildren, Matt, Alisha,
2323 Brett, and Mark Thomas, and seven great-grandchildren, Dylan,
2424 Brett, Jayse, Bo Thomas, Eisley, Luna, and Caleb; and
2525 WHEREAS, Mr. Hicks enjoyed a rewarding 42-year career at King
2626 Chevrolet, and in his leisure hours, he liked following sports,
2727 especially The University of Texas Longhorns, the Tyler Junior
2828 College Apaches, the Dallas Cowboys, the Texas Rangers, and the
2929 Dallas Mavericks; he loved practicing baseball in the backyard with
3030 his boys, and he coached the Orr Eagles Little League baseball team,
3131 helping them to win two Tyler city championships; he also liked
3232 traveling with his family, especially to Disney World and Texas
3333 Rangers games; he was a valued congregant of Tyland Baptist Church
3434 and Pine Brook Baptist Church; and
3535 WHEREAS, Although Billy Hicks is greatly missed, he has left
3636 his loved ones with many treasured memories, and he will forever
3737 hold a special place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
3838 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature
3939 hereby pay tribute to the life of Billy Wayne Hicks and extend
4040 sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be it further
4141 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4242 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this
4343 day, it do so in memory of Billy Hicks.
