6+ WHEREAS, Supermarket employees fulfill an essential role in
7+ our communities by making sure that fresh, healthy food and other
8+ necessities are available to the public, including during natural
9+ disasters and other emergencies; and
610 WHEREAS, In Texas, more than 360,000 people are employed in
711 the food retail sector, which generates over $70 billion in
8- economic activity each year; due to their role in helping
9- families put food on the table, supermarkets are cornerstones of
10- their communities, and their workers represent a vital link in
11- the supply chain of food and consumer goods; and

20- WHEREAS, The demand for supermarket employees is greater
21- than ever, and those individuals on whom Texans are relying to
22- perform this essential service are truly deserving of our praise,

20+ men and women have gone above and beyond during this difficult time
