2	6		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	7		join the citizens of Edinburg in celebrating Edinburg Day at the
4	8		Capitol on February 22, 2023; and
5	9		WHEREAS, The county seat of Hidalgo County, Edinburg is a
6	10		thriving community in the heart of the Rio Grande Valley, and the
7	11		city holds a wealth of opportunities for residents and visitors
8	12		alike; and
9	13		WHEREAS, Edinburg is one of the fastest-growing cities in
10	14		the state and is considered a regional hub for both health care
11	15		and air travel; the city is home to The University of Texas Rio
12	16		Grande Valley's main campus and to its School of Medicine; in
13	17		addition, the United States Border Patrol Rio Grande Valley
14	18		Sector is headquartered in Edinburg; and
15	19		WHEREAS, Edinburg draws thousands of visitors to its
16	20		sports arenas and recreational venues; the city boasts a
17	21		professional soccer stadium and the Bert Ogden Arena, a
18	22		state-of-the-art indoor arena that is the largest of its kind
19	23		south of San Antonio; and
20	24		WHEREAS, As a tribute to the valor of hometown legends
21	25		Sergeant Freddy Gonzalez and Private Pedro Cano, both of whom
22	26		received the Congressional and Texas Legislative Medals of
23	27		Honor, the City of Edinburg is often referred to as the "Hometown
24	28		of Heroes"; and
25	29		WHEREAS, Edinburg has implemented a successful
26	30		revitalization program that has resulted in improvements
27	31		throughout the city, and it is a three-time recipient of the
28	32		All-America City award, one of the oldest and most prestigious
29	33		municipal recognition awards in the nation; residents can indeed
30	34		take pride in their flourishing community while looking forward
31	35		to a bright and prosperous future; now, therefore, be it
32	36		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
33	37		Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Edinburg on their
34	38		many contributions to the state and extend to them best wishes
35	39		for a memorable Edinburg Day at the Capitol; and, be it further
36	40		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
37	41		the city as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
