| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of a century, Midwestern State |

| 3 | 3 | | University in Wichita Falls has distinguished itself as an |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | outstanding educational resource in North Texas; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Established as Wichita Falls Junior College in |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | 1922, the school was the second municipal junior college in |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Texas, and it shared its building and faculty with Wichita Falls |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | High School; in 1937, the school was renamed Hardin Junior |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | College in honor of Mr. and Mrs. John G. Hardin, and the Hardin |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Building, a striking Lombard-Romanesque edifice with a bell |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | tower, became the centerpiece of a new 40-acre campus; during |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | World War II, the college began an affiliation with nearby |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Sheppard Air Force Base that continues to this day; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, After the war, the school added a senior division |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and became Hardin College; in 1950, the school was renamed |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Midwestern University, and in 1959, a graduate school was |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | established; by an act of the 56th Texas Legislature, the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | university dissolved the junior college division and joined the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Texas Colleges and Universities System in 1961, and in 1975, its |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | name was changed to Midwestern State University; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Today, MSU Texas is a dynamic institution of |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | higher learning with 70 buildings on a 255-acre campus, and its |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | diverse population of nearly 5,800 students takes advantage of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | bachelor's and master's degree programs in the school's six |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | colleges and graduate school; in May 2019, the school |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | dedicated its new, state-of-the-art health sciences facility |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | as Centennial Hall in honor of the 100th anniversary, and in |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | January 2021, the university welcomed its first doctoral |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | students in educational leadership; in September of that same |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | year, MSU Texas became the fifth campus to become part of the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Texas Tech University System; and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Since its founding a century ago, Midwestern |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | State University has provided generations of Texans with a strong |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | foundation for achievement, and as the university celebrates its |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | milestone anniversary, its students, faculty, staff, and alumni |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | may take great pride in their rich history while looking forward |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | to an exciting future; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Legislature, hereby commemorate the centennial of Midwestern State |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | University and extend to all those associated with the school |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | prepared for the university as an expression of high regard from |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | the Texas Senate. |
