| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Williamson County and its residents on the occasion of |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | the county's 175th anniversary on March 13, 2023; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Williamson County was founded in 1848 when |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | residents of western Milam County petitioned the Texas |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Legislature for the creation of a new county, which they named |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | for Battle of San Jacinto veteran Robert M. Williamson; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A group of men were appointed by the legislature |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | to serve as the county's first commissioners and to select a |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | location for the county seat; George Washington Glasscock, who |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | jointly owned land with Thomas B. Huling, a member of the Texas |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Legislature, offered to donate land to serve as the county seat |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | with the agreement to call the area Georgetown; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Today a center for agribusiness, education, and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | high-tech industry, Williamson County boasts a population of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | more than 609,000 people; it is one of the fastest-growing |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | counties in the nation and was ranked by the 2021 County Health |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Rankings as the second-healthiest place to live in Texas among |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the 244 ranked counties; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, From its historic Beaux-Arts courthouse in the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | center of Georgetown to the fertile black soil in the east and the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | beautiful landscapes of rolling limestone hills in the west, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Williamson County offers its residents an exceptionally |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | desirable place to live, work, and raise a family; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, In honor of this historic anniversary of their |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | county, Williamson County residents will gather on March 10 and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | 11, 2023, to celebrate with live music, entertainment, and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | activities for guests of all ages; the event's theme, "Still |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Making History," is indeed fitting for this momentous occasion as |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | the people of Williamson County look to the future with |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | confidence and celebrate their storied past and this significant |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | milestone in their county's history; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Legislature, hereby commend the people of Williamson County on |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | their many contributions to the growth and prosperity of our |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | state and extend to all best wishes for a memorable 175th |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | anniversary celebration; and, be it further |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | honor of this special event as an expression of esteem from the |
|---|
