2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy |

3 | 3 | | students from across the state are gathering in Austin on |

4 | 4 | | February 28, 2023, in celebration of Texas Pharmacy Day at the |
---|
5 | 5 | | State Capitol; and |
---|
6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The history of the pharmacy profession in Texas |
---|
7 | 7 | | dates back to the 17th century, when Spanish explorers and |
---|
8 | 8 | | missionaries dispensed medicines and learned about Native |
---|
9 | 9 | | American remedies; and |
---|
10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Today, pharmacists often serve as the primary |
---|
11 | 11 | | point of contact with the health care system for tens of millions |
---|
12 | 12 | | of Americans, and they play an increasingly important role in |
---|
13 | 13 | | counseling patients on the safe and effective use of prescription |
---|
14 | 14 | | medications; during the COVID-19 pandemic, pharmacists have |
---|
15 | 15 | | provided access to testing, treatment, and vaccination, services |
---|
16 | 16 | | that have helped to save countless lives and to limit the spread |
---|
17 | 17 | | of the virus in their communities; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Pharmacists work to provide affordable, |
---|
19 | 19 | | lifesaving medications in rural areas across Texas and the United |
---|
20 | 20 | | States; these valued members of the community live and work |
---|
21 | 21 | | alongside patients as neighbors, friends, and community leaders |
---|
22 | 22 | | in addition to their role as medical providers; such lasting |
---|
23 | 23 | | relationships build trust and confidence, making pharmacists |
---|
24 | 24 | | better able to serve as a resource when questions and concerns |
---|
25 | 25 | | arise; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Champions on the front lines of health care, |
---|
27 | 27 | | pharmacists contribute immeasurably to the health and well-being |
---|
28 | 28 | | of their fellow Texans, and it is truly a pleasure to recognize |
---|
29 | 29 | | the members of this vital profession for their commitment to the |
---|
30 | 30 | | quality of life in their communities; now, therefore, be it |
---|
31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
---|
32 | 32 | | Legislature, hereby recognize February 28, 2023, as Texas |
---|
33 | 33 | | Pharmacy Day at the State Capitol and extend to all those |
---|
34 | 34 | | participating sincere best wishes for an informative and |
---|
35 | 35 | | enjoyable event; and, be it further |
---|
36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an |
