2	2	WHEREAS, Texas Tech University in Lubbock is celebrating
3	3	the 100th anniversary of its founding in 2023; and
4	4	WHEREAS, Established as Texas Technological College in
5	5	1923, the school opened two years later with an enrollment of 914
6	6	undergraduate students; in 1936, a division of graduate studies
7	7	was added, and in 1969 the college was renamed Texas Tech
8	8	University; the institution has distinguished itself by earning
9	9	the Very High Research Activity designation from the Carnegie
10	10	Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, as well as
11	11	recognition as a Veteran Friendly Institution and as an honoree
12	12	on the "Best for Vets: Employers" list by the Military Times; in
13	13	the last three years, its faculty members have received 23
14	14	Fulbright Scholar Awards, 8 National Science Foundation Career
15	15	Awards, and 7 National Endowment for the Humanities grants; Texas
16	16	Tech alumni include governors from Texas and Colorado, multiple
17	17	members of Congress and state legislatures, stars of stage,
18	18	screen, and music, and leaders and captains of industry, science,
19	19	engineering, agriculture, and more; and
20	20	WHEREAS, Today, Texas Tech serves more than 40,000
21	21	students and offers over 150 undergraduate, 100 graduate, and 50
22	22	doctoral programs across its 13 colleges and schools; the
23	23	university also has international campuses and study abroad
24	24	programs; award-winning programs include the Davis College of
25	25	Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, the School of
26	26	Medicine, the School of Law, multiple colleges of engineering,
27	27	and the Rawls College of Business; in recent years, the
28	28	university inaugurated the Texas Tech School of Veterinary
29	29	Medicine; and
30	30	WHEREAS, Texas Tech also takes great pride in its athletic
31	31	programs; the Red Raiders compete in 17 varsity sports, and 16 of
32	32	those teams have participated in the NCAA postseason or in a bowl
33	33	game; moreover, the university has won 27 Big 12 Conference
34	34	titles, including 11 in the past seven years, and its alumni
35	35	include Olympic athletes and Super Bowl champions; and
36	36	WHEREAS, Since its founding 100 years ago, Texas Tech has
37	37	provided generations of Texans with a strong foundation for
38	38	achievement, and in so doing, it has contributed significantly to
39	39	the prosperity and vitality of the Lone Star State; now,
40	40	therefore, be it
41	41	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
42	42	Legislature, hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of Texas
43	43	Tech University and extend to all those associated with this
44	44	noteworthy institution sincere best wishes for the future; and,
45	45	be it further
46	46	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
47	47	prepared for the university as an expression of high regard from
48	48	the Texas Senate.
