SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 254
WHEREAS, The members of Tyler Metro Church in Whitehouse
honored founding pastors Jerry and Martha Phelps at the church's
40th anniversary celebration on February 26, 2023; and
WHEREAS, Jerry and Martha Phelps started their ministerial
career more than six decades ago as evangelists traveling across
the country; they helped establish a number of churches and
pastored in Indiana for several years before moving back to their
home state of Texas; and
WHEREAS, In 1983, Mr. and Mrs. Phelps founded Tyler
Metro Church, and they have continued to lead the congregation
together for the past 40 years; under their guidance, the
members of this notable house of worship have established a
variety of commendable programs that foster fellowship and
offer help to those in need, including the Philadelphia
Blessing food pantry, the Stone Fort Camp, and a robust
international missionary program; and
WHEREAS, Since its founding, Jerry and Martha Phelps have
wholeheartedly committed themselves to advancing the mission of
Tyler Metro Church, and their leadership has provided valued
inspiration and guidance to their community of faith; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
Legislature, hereby commend Jerry and Martha Phelps for their
service to Tyler Metro Church and extend to them sincere best
wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
prepared for Jerry and Martha Phelps as an expression of high
regard from the Texas Senate.
