11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 254
22 WHEREAS, The members of Tyler Metro Church in Whitehouse
33 honored founding pastors Jerry and Martha Phelps at the church's
44 40th anniversary celebration on February 26, 2023; and
55 WHEREAS, Jerry and Martha Phelps started their ministerial
66 career more than six decades ago as evangelists traveling across
77 the country; they helped establish a number of churches and
88 pastored in Indiana for several years before moving back to their
99 home state of Texas; and
1010 WHEREAS, In 1983, Mr. and Mrs. Phelps founded Tyler
1111 Metro Church, and they have continued to lead the congregation
1212 together for the past 40 years; under their guidance, the
1313 members of this notable house of worship have established a
1414 variety of commendable programs that foster fellowship and
1515 offer help to those in need, including the Philadelphia
1616 Blessing food pantry, the Stone Fort Camp, and a robust
1717 international missionary program; and
1818 WHEREAS, Since its founding, Jerry and Martha Phelps have
1919 wholeheartedly committed themselves to advancing the mission of
2020 Tyler Metro Church, and their leadership has provided valued
2121 inspiration and guidance to their community of faith; now,
2222 therefore, be it
2323 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
2424 Legislature, hereby commend Jerry and Martha Phelps for their
2525 service to Tyler Metro Church and extend to them sincere best
2626 wishes for the future; and, be it further
2727 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
2828 prepared for Jerry and Martha Phelps as an expression of high
2929 regard from the Texas Senate.
