2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The volunteers, staff, and board members who make |

3 | 3 | | up the Texas Court Appointed Special Advocates network are |
---|
4 | 4 | | gathering in Austin on March 1, 2023, for CASA Day at the State |
---|
5 | 5 | | Capitol; and |
---|
6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Texas CASA is part of a national volunteer |
---|
7 | 7 | | movement that began in 1977 to enlist local community volunteers |
---|
8 | 8 | | to support children and families involved in the foster care |
---|
9 | 9 | | system; beginning in 1979 with the first Texas CASA program which |
---|
10 | 10 | | was established in Dallas, and followed by the formation of Texas |
---|
11 | 11 | | CASA in 1989, judges, individual volunteers, and communities |
---|
12 | 12 | | across the state have worked to expand CASA's initiatives; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Providing 72 local programs in 219 of the state's |
---|
14 | 14 | | 254 counties, Texas CASA has grown to become one of the largest |
---|
15 | 15 | | such initiatives in the nation; through their advocacy efforts in |
---|
16 | 16 | | the 2020 fiscal year, CASA volunteers made a difference for |
---|
17 | 17 | | 29,229 young people by helping build community connections and |
---|
18 | 18 | | pathways to resiliency and healing from trauma; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, CASA volunteers are appointed by a judge to |
---|
20 | 20 | | provide valuable information to them and to make informed |
---|
21 | 21 | | recommendations to the courts so that they can act in the best |
---|
22 | 22 | | interests of each child; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The CASA network in Texas works tirelessly to |
---|
24 | 24 | | serve more children and families and to ensure that it serves |
---|
25 | 25 | | those children and families as informed, collaborative partners |
---|
26 | 26 | | in an ever-evolving system of care; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, All those associated with CASA are truly |
---|
28 | 28 | | deserving of recognition for their important work and service to |
---|
29 | 29 | | the State of Texas, its courts, its children, and its families; |
---|
30 | 30 | | now, therefore, be it |
---|
31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
---|
32 | 32 | | Legislature, hereby recognize March 1, 2023, as CASA Day at the |
---|
33 | 33 | | State Capitol and commend the organization for its diligent |
---|
34 | 34 | | efforts to aid abused and neglected children; and, be it further |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
36 | 36 | | the organization as an expression of esteem from the Texas |
---|
