| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Marlin Community Garden Club on the occasion of its |

| 4 | 4 | | 100th anniversary on March 11, 2023; and |

| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Inspired by the Philadelphia Garden Club, Ida |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Pauleen Linthicum founded the Marlin Community Garden Club, the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | first gardening club in Texas, in 1923; Ida served as the club's |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | first president, with Mrs. J. B. Billingsley as first vice |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | president; as a result of their vision and leadership, the club |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | became a charter member of Texas Garden Clubs, Incorporated, in |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | 1928; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Early activities within the Community Garden Club |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | included educational lectures on garden design, floral |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | arrangement, botanical histories, and other gardening topics; |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the club founded the annual flower show in 1927, and members have |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | promoted and celebrated local beautification for the past |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | century; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Through the ongoing support of the Marlin |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | community and its residents, the club has continued to thrive |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | through expanded outreach to engage young adults in its |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | activities; the club's recent projects include the replanting of |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the Falls County Courthouse rose garden and maintaining the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Liberty Bell rose garden and the City Hall garden; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Today, the Community Garden Club provides the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | residents of Marlin and the Lone Star State with lush and vibrant |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | gardens, and all who have contributed to the garden club's |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | success can reflect with pride on its long history of service; |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Marlin Community |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Garden Club on their service to their community and their |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | contributions to gardening in Texas and extend to all |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | congratulations on the club's 100th anniversary and best wishes |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | for a memorable centennial celebration; and, be it further |

| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
