44 Ben Figueroa Jr.
55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of Ben Figueroa Jr., who died on July 18,
77 2022, at the age of 75; and
88 WHEREAS, Ben Figueroa Jr. was an exemplary community
99 leader and citizen who was widely esteemed for his wise counsel,
1010 his dedication to duty, and his tireless service to others; and
1111 WHEREAS, Ben was born on January 19, 1947, in Kingsville;
1212 he earned bachelor's and master's degrees in psychology and
1313 history from Texas A&M--Kingsville and held certificates and
1414 licenses in criminal justice and as a chemical dependency
1515 counselor, an anger management facilitator, and a youth
1616 relationship and family wellness trainer; and
1717 WHEREAS, A veteran of the United States Navy, Ben served
1818 his country with distinction; he was involved in various
1919 organizations in his community, where he served on the
2020 Spohn-Kleberg Hospital Advisory Board and on the boards of
2121 Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2375, the Boys and Girls Clubs of
2222 Kingsville, the Greater Kingsville Economic Development Council,
2323 and the Knights of Columbus Council 2623; and
2424 WHEREAS, Guided by a spirit of compassion and generosity,
2525 Ben founded the Institute of Rural Development Foster Youth and
2626 Transitional Living Center and Los AƱos De Oro senior citizen
2727 housing in Kleberg County; he served as director of the Institute
2828 of Rural Development in Kingsville and as executive director of
2929 Kleberg County Human Services, and he was instrumental in
3030 developing multiple grants benefiting the residents of
3131 Kingsville and members of the surrounding community; and
3232 WHEREAS, Above all, Ben was a devoted husband, father,
3333 and grandfather who treasured his family and gave generously
3434 to help those in need; left to cherish his memory is his
3535 family: his beloved wife of 55 years, Edna Figueroa; their
3636 children, Terri Morales and Ted Figueroa; his granddaughters,
3737 Terra, Katie, and Karyssa; his sister, Lolly Arispe; and his
3838 nieces and nephews; and
3939 WHEREAS, Ben's outstanding service and dedication to his
4040 country, his state, and his community have made a positive
4141 difference in the lives of countless people, and he will be
4242 remembered with great respect and admiration by all who were
4343 privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it
4444 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
4545 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
4646 family of Ben Figueroa Jr.; and, be it further
4747 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4848 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4949 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
5050 memory of Ben Figueroa Jr.
