5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
---|
6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Ben Figueroa Jr., who died on July 18, |
---|
7 | 7 | | 2022, at the age of 75; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Ben Figueroa Jr. was an exemplary community |
---|
9 | 9 | | leader and citizen who was widely esteemed for his wise counsel, |
---|
10 | 10 | | his dedication to duty, and his tireless service to others; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Ben was born on January 19, 1947, in Kingsville; |
---|
12 | 12 | | he earned bachelor's and master's degrees in psychology and |
---|
13 | 13 | | history from Texas A&M--Kingsville and held certificates and |
---|
14 | 14 | | licenses in criminal justice and as a chemical dependency |
---|
15 | 15 | | counselor, an anger management facilitator, and a youth |
---|
16 | 16 | | relationship and family wellness trainer; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, A veteran of the United States Navy, Ben served |
---|
18 | 18 | | his country with distinction; he was involved in various |
---|
19 | 19 | | organizations in his community, where he served on the |
---|
20 | 20 | | Spohn-Kleberg Hospital Advisory Board and on the boards of |
---|
21 | 21 | | Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2375, the Boys and Girls Clubs of |
---|
22 | 22 | | Kingsville, the Greater Kingsville Economic Development Council, |
---|
23 | 23 | | and the Knights of Columbus Council 2623; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Guided by a spirit of compassion and generosity, |
---|
25 | 25 | | Ben founded the Institute of Rural Development Foster Youth and |
---|
26 | 26 | | Transitional Living Center and Los AƱos De Oro senior citizen |
---|
27 | 27 | | housing in Kleberg County; he served as director of the Institute |
---|
28 | 28 | | of Rural Development in Kingsville and as executive director of |
---|
29 | 29 | | Kleberg County Human Services, and he was instrumental in |
---|
30 | 30 | | developing multiple grants benefiting the residents of |
---|
31 | 31 | | Kingsville and members of the surrounding community; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Above all, Ben was a devoted husband, father, |
---|
33 | 33 | | and grandfather who treasured his family and gave generously |
---|
34 | 34 | | to help those in need; left to cherish his memory is his |
---|
35 | 35 | | family: his beloved wife of 55 years, Edna Figueroa; their |
---|
36 | 36 | | children, Terri Morales and Ted Figueroa; his granddaughters, |
---|
37 | 37 | | Terra, Katie, and Karyssa; his sister, Lolly Arispe; and his |
---|
38 | 38 | | nieces and nephews; and |
---|
39 | 39 | | WHEREAS, Ben's outstanding service and dedication to his |
---|
40 | 40 | | country, his state, and his community have made a positive |
---|
41 | 41 | | difference in the lives of countless people, and he will be |
---|
42 | 42 | | remembered with great respect and admiration by all who were |
---|
43 | 43 | | privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
44 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
---|
45 | 45 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
46 | 46 | | family of Ben Figueroa Jr.; and, be it further |
---|
47 | 47 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
48 | 48 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
49 | 49 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
