2	2	WHEREAS, The members of Blue Star Mothers of America have
3	3	long rendered exceptional service to families and U.S. military
4	4	personnel; and
5	5	WHEREAS, On January 22, 1942, Army Captain George Maines
6	6	ran an advertisement in the Flint News-Advertiser calling for
7	7	mothers of members of the U.S. armed forces to come together; the
8	8	following month, on February 1, 300 mothers held their first
9	9	meeting in Flint, Michigan, and in 1960, Blue Star Mothers of
10	10	America, Inc., received its charter from the U.S. Congress; a
11	11	nonpartisan, nonpolitical, and nonsectarian organization, BSMA
12	12	is composed of mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, foster
13	13	mothers, and female legal guardians whose children are serving in
14	14	the military or who have achieved the status of veteran; and
15	15	WHEREAS, Today, at least 10 Texas chapters across the state
16	16	are included in the more than 200 Blue Star Mothers of America
17	17	chapters that represent thousands of military families in the
18	18	United States; among their many contributions, BSMA members ship
19	19	care packages to military personnel who are deployed overseas,
20	20	assist veterans who are experiencing homelessness, visit
21	21	hospitalized veterans, provide support for wounded military
22	22	members, and join together to honor those who have made the
23	23	ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation; and
24	24	WHEREAS, Committed to supporting our troops, our veterans,
25	25	and the families of those who so bravely serve, Blue Star Mothers
26	26	of America fosters a community of compassion while promoting
27	27	patriotism and a sense of pride and appreciation for all members
28	28	of the U.S. armed forces; now, therefore, be it
29	29	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
30	30	Legislature, hereby commend the Texas chapters of Blue Star Mothers
31	31	of America for their important work and extend to all those
32	32	associated with the chapters sincere best wishes for the future.
