11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 260
22 WHEREAS, The members of Blue Star Mothers of America have
33 long rendered exceptional service to families and U.S. military
44 personnel; and
55 WHEREAS, On January 22, 1942, Army Captain George Maines
66 ran an advertisement in the Flint News-Advertiser calling for
77 mothers of members of the U.S. armed forces to come together; the
88 following month, on February 1, 300 mothers held their first
99 meeting in Flint, Michigan, and in 1960, Blue Star Mothers of
1010 America, Inc., received its charter from the U.S. Congress; a
1111 nonpartisan, nonpolitical, and nonsectarian organization, BSMA
1212 is composed of mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, foster
1313 mothers, and female legal guardians whose children are serving in
1414 the military or who have achieved the status of veteran; and
1515 WHEREAS, Today, at least 10 Texas chapters across the state
1616 are included in the more than 200 Blue Star Mothers of America
1717 chapters that represent thousands of military families in the
1818 United States; among their many contributions, BSMA members ship
1919 care packages to military personnel who are deployed overseas,
2020 assist veterans who are experiencing homelessness, visit
2121 hospitalized veterans, provide support for wounded military
2222 members, and join together to honor those who have made the
2323 ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation; and
2424 WHEREAS, Committed to supporting our troops, our veterans,
2525 and the families of those who so bravely serve, Blue Star Mothers
2626 of America fosters a community of compassion while promoting
2727 patriotism and a sense of pride and appreciation for all members
2828 of the U.S. armed forces; now, therefore, be it
2929 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
3030 Legislature, hereby commend the Texas chapters of Blue Star Mothers
3131 of America for their important work and extend to all those
3232 associated with the chapters sincere best wishes for the future.
