2	6		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	7		welcome the proud citizens of Palmview who are gathering in
4	8		Austin on March 1, 2023, to celebrate Palmview Day at the State
5	9		Capitol; and
6	10		WHEREAS, Located in southern Hidalgo County in the Rio
7	11		Grande Valley, Palmview traces its heritage to the town of Mamie,
8	12		which was established in 1904 as a stop along the Saint Louis,
9	13		Brownsville, and Mexico Railway; in 1972, a group of local
10	14		residents led a drive to create an autonomous community, and
11	15		their efforts resulted in the establishment of the City of
12	16		Palmview; and
13	17		WHEREAS, In the years since, Palmview has experienced
14		-	significant growth and is now home to more than 15,800
15		-	~~residents;~~ the community is situated between the busy retail
16		-	~~areas of~~ central Hidalgo County and the growing Starr County to
17		-	~~the west;~~ and

18	22		WHEREAS, Palmview's expansion has created a range of new
19	23		business opportunities, and the city's municipal development
20	24		district is working with entrepreneurs to spur further economic
21	25		activity; moreover, officials are devoted to enhancing services
22	26		to benefit the city's growing population, and to that end, have
23	27		cooperated with agencies such as the Texas Water Development
24	28		Board and the United States Department of Housing and Urban
25	29		Development to pursue infrastructure projects; and
26	30		WHEREAS, Home to an engaged citizenry and city government,
27	31		Palmview is building on its heritage of hard work and
28	32		independence to establish a foundation for a dynamic and
29	33		prosperous future; now, therefore, be it
30	34		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
31	35		Legislature, hereby recognize March 1, 2023, as Palmview Day at
32	36		the State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation sincere
33	37		best wishes for an enjoyable and productive stay in Austin; and,
34	38		be it further
35	39		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
36	40		honor of this special occasion.
