| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Proud residents of Pleasanton are gathering in |

| 3 | 3 | | Austin on March 8, 2023, to celebrate Pleasanton Day at the State |

| 4 | 4 | | Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Situated in Atascosa County at the juncture of the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Atascosa River and Bonita Creek, Pleasanton was founded in 1858 |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | as the new county seat and took its name from early settler John |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Pleasant; though the county seat was moved to Jourdanton in 1910, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | the town continued to thrive, and it was officially incorporated |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | in 1917; over the years, it became a gathering place for cowboys |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | driving cattle to Kansas and eventually adopted the moniker the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | "Birthplace of the Cowboy"; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Today, Pleasanton boasts a population of nearly |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | 11,000 people and is known as "The City of Live Oaks and Friendly |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Folks"; the community is served by the Pleasanton Independent |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | School District, which encompasses a primary, elementary, junior |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | high, and high school, and it benefits from the educational and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | vocational opportunities provided by Coastal Bend College; local |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | residents and visitors enjoy a number of annual community events, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | including Cowboy Heritage Days, Merry on Main, and a Fourth of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | July celebration; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, The citizens of Pleasanton are working to |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | preserve the best of their past while building a future of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | expanding opportunity, and its citizens may indeed take pride in |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | the role their community plays in the story of the Lone Star |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | State; now, therefore, be it |

| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby recognize March 8, 2023, as Pleasanton Day at |

| 29 | 29 | | the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | delegation. |
