11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 284
22 WHEREAS, Scouts BSA Troop No. 7 in Grapevine is
33 celebrating the 110th anniversary of its founding on March 8,
44 2023; and
55 WHEREAS, In 1913, the mayor of Grapevine, Benjamin Richard
66 Wall, brought the No. 7 Boy Scout Unit Charter back from New
77 York, establishing it as one of the oldest scout groups in Texas
88 and the region west of the Mississippi; not even World War I could
99 diminish the enthusiasm of this group of young men, who continued
1010 to meet and camp every Friday night even though most of their
1111 fathers were fighting overseas; and
1212 WHEREAS, Mayor Wall remained involved with the troop until
1313 1954, and through the years it has been supported by a number of
1414 local organizations, including the Grapevine Business Men's
1515 League, the Grapevine City Council, the Grapevine Lions Club, and
1616 St. Laurence Episcopal Church; today, this scouting crew is
1717 sponsored by Grapevine Friends of Scouting; and
1818 WHEREAS, Under the leadership of scoutmaster Darren White,
1919 Troop No. 7 counts approximately 40 scouts among its members; the
2020 troop has produced 144 Eagle Scouts and has participated in
2121 myriad service projects such as flag ceremonies on Memorial Day
2222 and numerous activities performed in behalf of schools,
2323 municipalities, and other organizations; and
2424 WHEREAS, For more than a century, Scouts BSA Troop No. 7
2525 has made a significant difference in the lives of countless young
2626 Texans while contributing to the betterment of Grapevine,
2727 Tarrant County, and beyond, and it is indeed a pleasure to join in
2828 recognizing this momentous milestone in the group's rich
2929 history; now, therefore, be it
3030 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
3131 Legislature, hereby congratulate Scouts BSA Troop No. 7 of
3232 Grapevine on the 110th anniversary of its founding and commend
3333 its members and leaders, past and present, and all those who have
3434 worked to support the organization during its 11 decades of
3535 service to the community; and, be it further
3636 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
3737 prepared for the troop as an expression of high regard from the
3838 Texas Senate.
