2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Hector Gutierrez Jr. is the recipient of a 2023 |

3 | 3 | | Distinguished Alumnus Award from Texas A&M University; and |

4 | 4 | | WHEREAS, The highest honor bestowed upon former students |

5 | 5 | | of Texas A&M, the Distinguished Alumnus Award has been presented |

6 | 6 | | to only 328 of the university's more than 574,000 alumni since |
---|
7 | 7 | | 1962; the accolade is given jointly by Texas A&M and The |
---|
8 | 8 | | Association of Former Students to recognize Aggies who have |
---|
9 | 9 | | achieved excellence in their chosen professions and who have made |
---|
10 | 10 | | meaningful contributions to the school and their local |
---|
11 | 11 | | communities; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, A member of the Class of 1969, Hector Gutierrez |
---|
13 | 13 | | graduated with a mathematics degree; he was commander of the |
---|
14 | 14 | | Texas A&M University Corps of Cadets and belonged to Squadron 9 |
---|
15 | 15 | | and the Ross Volunteers; additionally, he was president of the |
---|
16 | 16 | | Honor Council and a member of Town Hall and the Student |
---|
17 | 17 | | Conference on National Affairs; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Gutierrez has given back to his alma mater |
---|
19 | 19 | | in many ways, including by holding a seat on the boards of |
---|
20 | 20 | | directors for both Texas A&M University Press and The |
---|
21 | 21 | | Association of Former Students; furthermore, he served on the |
---|
22 | 22 | | Corps of Cadets Development Council and the Development |
---|
23 | 23 | | Foundation Board of the Texas A&M Health Science Center; |
---|
24 | 24 | | through his efforts as founding chair of the Texas A&M Hispanic |
---|
25 | 25 | | Network, he helped make possible the university's designation |
---|
26 | 26 | | as a Hispanic Serving Institution; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan served 5 years in the U.S. Air |
---|
28 | 28 | | Force and 16 years in the Air Force Reserve, rising to the rank of |
---|
29 | 29 | | lieutenant colonel; over the course of his 34-year civilian |
---|
30 | 30 | | career, he worked for El Paso Electric and HillCo Partners, and |
---|
31 | 31 | | he served as a public affairs consultant for the City of El Paso, |
---|
32 | 32 | | the El Paso Water Public Service Board, AT&T, Motorola, and the |
---|
33 | 33 | | American Heart Association; moreover, he owned Hector Gutierrez |
---|
34 | 34 | | Consulting, a public relations and communications firm; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Hector Gutierrez has distinguished himself |
---|
36 | 36 | | through his professional and civic endeavors, and he is indeed |
---|
37 | 37 | | deserving of recognition for his exemplary record of achievement |
---|
38 | 38 | | and for the positive impact he has had on the Texas A&M community; |

39 | 39 | | now, therefore, be it |

40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |

41 | 41 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate Hector Gutierrez Jr. on |

42 | 42 | | receiving a 2023 Distinguished Alumnus Award from Texas A&M |

43 | 43 | | University and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; |
