2	6		WHEREAS, Proud residents of Starr County are gathering in
3		-	Austin on March 7, 2023, to celebrate Starr County Day at the
4		-	State Capitol; and
5		-	WHEREAS, Situated in South Texas along the Rio Grande,
6		-	Starr County was formed in 1848 and named for Dr. James Harper
7		-	Starr of the Republic of Texas; over the years, farming and
8		-	ranching have been integral to the area, and today, construction
9		-	and extraction, health care, and retail trade further the
10		-	region's prosperity; and
11		-	WHEREAS, Rio Grande City, the county seat, is located in
12		-	the heart of Los Caminos del Rio Heritage Corridor, which
13		-	contains numerous architectural and historical treasures from
14		-	the 18th and 19th centuries; Roma, the second largest city in the
15		-	county, was founded in 1765 as a Spanish colonial town and, with a
16		-	number of 19th century structures still standing, it is one of
17		-	the best remaining Spanish colonial townsites in the lower Rio
18		-	Grande Valley; the city was designated a national historic
19		-	district and was used in the filming of Viva Zapata, starring
20		-	Marlon Brando; other notable towns include Escobares and La
21		-	Grulla; and
	7	+	Austin on March 7, 2023, to celebrate Starr County Day at the State
	8	+	Capitol; and
	9	+	WHEREAS, Situated in South Texas along the Rio Grande, Starr

26		-	number of annual events, including the Starr County Fair and the
27		-	Fourth of July Parade and Festival, held in Rio Grande City; and
28		-	WHEREAS, The people of Starr County take great pride in
29		-	their rich history as they work together to build an even
30		-	brighter future, and it is indeed appropriate to take this
31		-	opportunity to honor them; now, therefore, be it
32		-	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
33		-	Legislature, hereby recognize March 7, 2023, as Starr County Day
34		-	at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation
35		-	sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable stay in
36		-	Austin.

	35	+	hereby recognize March 7, 2023, as Starr County Day at the State
	36	+	Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation sincere best wishes
	37	+	for a meaningful and memorable stay in Austin.
