                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 292
 WHEREAS, Students, faculty, and staff of Texas Tech
 University Health Sciences Center are celebrating 54 years as
 an independent university within the Texas Tech University
 system; and
 WHEREAS, Launched in 1969 as Texas Tech University School
 of Medicine, it was renamed Texas Tech University Health Sciences
 Center in 1979 when it became a full-fledged health research
 institution; throughout its history, TTUHSC has been a leader in
 rural health care for the State of Texas; and
 WHEREAS, Today, the university offers top-quality academic
 and clinical education for the next generation of doctors,
 nurses, pharmacists, researchers, and other health care
 professionals while furthering its foundational mission of
 providing world-class health care to the people of West Texas;
 TTUHSC is focused on transforming health care through innovation
 and collaboration, offering solutions that serve as models of
 care throughout the state; the institution encompasses six
 schools, TTUHSC School of Medicine, the School of Nursing, the
 School of Health Professions, the Jerry H. Hodge School of
 Pharmacy, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and the
 Julia Jones Matthews School of Population and Public Health, and
 it maintains campuses in Abilene, Amarillo, Dallas, Lubbock,
 Midland, and Odessa; and
 WHEREAS, TTUHSC educates students, provides patient care,
 and conducts biomedical and clinical research; the university
 graduates the most health care professionals in the State of
 Texas, and it has been recognized as a pioneer in telehealth;
 having served hundreds of thousands of patients since the first
 telemedicine consult in 1990, the institution continues to lead
 efforts to expand access to care in underserved areas; in
 addition, TTUHSC is nationally recognized for innovative
 programs, academic achievement, and cutting-edge research; and
 WHEREAS, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center has
 graduated more than 37,000 highly qualified health care
 professionals who are serving patients and driving medical
 discovery in tangible, life-changing ways in Texas and around the
 world; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
 Legislature, hereby honor Texas Tech University Health Sciences
 Center on its achievements and extend to all those associated
 with the institution sincere best wishes for continued success;
 and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
 prepared for TTUHSC as an expression of high regard from the
 Texas Senate.
