5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, This outstanding organization can trace its |

6 | 6 | | history to 1985, when a group of 19 women established Dallas |

7 | 7 | | Women's Foundation to help ensure that resources were being aimed |
---|
8 | 8 | | at addressing the unique needs of women and their families; over |
---|
9 | 9 | | the years, the organization has expanded to serve women |
---|
10 | 10 | | throughout the entire state, and it officially became Texas |
---|
11 | 11 | | Women's Foundation in 2018; to carry out its mission, TXWF |
---|
12 | 12 | | leverages funds from a number of donors, including individuals, |
---|
13 | 13 | | foundations, and corporations, and its efforts focus on |
---|
14 | 14 | | advancing economic and leadership opportunities for women and |
---|
15 | 15 | | girls; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, TXWF has been a leader in the gender lens |
---|
17 | 17 | | investing movement, deploying 100 percent of its assets in a |
---|
18 | 18 | | gendered impact portfolio that yields financial returns and |
---|
19 | 19 | | social benefits to women and girls; the organization also |
---|
20 | 20 | | advocates for positive change at the local and state levels, and |
---|
21 | 21 | | it produces research on economic issues that impact women in |
---|
22 | 22 | | Texas, such as child care, housing, education, and health care; |
---|
23 | 23 | | and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Since 2013, TXWF has helped some 90,000 women and |
---|
25 | 25 | | families through its leadership and economic security |
---|
26 | 26 | | initiatives, including the Young Women's Initiative, the Women's |
---|
27 | 27 | | Leadership Institute, and #BestSelf; the organization also |
---|
28 | 28 | | encompasses groups known as Giving Circles, which contribute |
---|
29 | 29 | | funds to nonprofit organizations that benefit the Asian American |
---|
30 | 30 | | and Pacific Islander, African American, and Hispanic |
---|
31 | 31 | | communities; in addition, TXWF has awarded more than $46 million |
---|
32 | 32 | | in grants over the past 38 years; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, For more than three and a half decades, Texas |
---|
34 | 34 | | Women's Foundation has empowered women to build an even brighter |
---|
35 | 35 | | future for themselves and their communities, and the |
---|
36 | 36 | | organization is truly deserving of special recognition for its |
---|
37 | 37 | | many contributions; now, therefore, be it |

38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |

39 | 39 | | Legislature, hereby commend Texas Women's Foundation for its |

40 | 40 | | work in support of women, girls, and their families and extend to |

41 | 41 | | all those associated with the organization sincere best wishes |
