2	2	WHEREAS, The Honorable Lynn Ellison retired as judge of the
3	3	81st Judicial District Court on December 31, 2022, and his
4	4	exemplary tenure in that office marked a notable chapter in a
5	5	distinguished legal career spanning nearly five decades; and
6	6	WHEREAS, Lynn Ellison was first elected judge of the 81st
7	7	Judicial District Court in 2018, and after taking office in 2019,
8	8	he presided over numerous civil, criminal, family, probate, and
9	9	juvenile cases for the court, which serves Atascosa, Frio,
10	10	Karnes, La Salle, and Wilson Counties; and
11	11	WHEREAS, Judge Ellison earned his bachelor's degree from
12	12	Tulane University and his law degree from The University of Texas
13	13	at Austin School of Law; he began his career in 1974 as an
14	14	assistant city attorney in Austin, and from 1975 to 1977, he was
15	15	an assistant district attorney in Travis County; after a brief
16	16	time in private practice, he served in a range of state
17	17	positions, including as a committee counsel for the Texas House
18	18	of Representatives, as a staff attorney for Texas MHMR, as
19	19	general counsel for the office of the Speaker of the House, as a
20	20	staff attorney for the Texas State Ethics Advisory Commission,
21	21	and as a special assistant for the State Property Tax Board; and
22	22	WHEREAS, In 1985, this respected attorney was hired by the
23	23	81st Judicial District Court as an assistant district attorney,
24	24	and he went on to be elected as the D.A., holding that office from
25	25	1993 to 2004; following nine years as an assistant attorney
26	26	general, he was appointed in 2013 as judge of the Atascosa County
27	27	Court at Law, where he served until his election as district
28	28	court judge; and
29	29	WHEREAS, Judge Ellison has contributed to his professional
30	30	community as a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Atascosa
31	31	County Bar Association, and the Texas District and County
32	32	Attorneys Association, and he has served on the Special
33	33	Prosecution Unit Board; furthermore, he has given generously of
34	34	his time to numerous other organizations, including the Atascosa
35	35	County Child Welfare Board and the Atascosa County Law
36	36	Enforcement Officers Association; in all his endeavors, he
37	37	enjoys the love and support of his wife of 42 years, Janet, his
38	38	daughters, Rachel and Gretchen, and his grandchildren; and
39	39	WHEREAS, Lynn Ellison's dedication, expertise, and
40	40	commitment to justice have greatly benefited citizens across the
41	41	Lone Star State, and he may indeed reflect with pride on his many
42	42	achievements; now, therefore, be it
43	43	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
44	44	Legislature, hereby congratulate Judge Lynn Ellison on his
45	45	retirement from the 81st Judicial District Court and extend to
46	46	him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
47	47	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
48	48	prepared for Judge Ellison as an expression of high regard from
49	49	the Texas Senate.
