| 3 | 3 | | in Terrell is celebrating its 20th anniversary as a freestanding |

| 4 | 4 | | institution on November 8, 2023; and |

| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Established during World War II as part of the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Lend-Lease Act, the No. 1 British Flying Training School in |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Terrell was one of six schools in the United States set up to |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | support England's wartime efforts by training pilots for the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Royal Air Force; between 1941 and 1945, more than 2,000 pilots |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | attended the school, and many of the British trainees formed |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | lifelong bonds with the residents of Terrell, who welcomed the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | student pilots into their homes and their community; each year, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | there is a Remembrance Day ceremony at Oakland Memorial Park to |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | memorialize the 20 cadets who passed away while training in |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Terrell; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The No. 1 British Flying Training School Museum |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | was started by former cadets with the mission to honor the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | sacrifices made by the pilots, educate citizens about the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | cooperation between Britain and America, and honor the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | connections made between the cadets and the people of North |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Texas; aviation enthusiasts, history buffs, and veterans alike |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | are drawn to the museum's fascinating holdings, which include |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | artifacts, photographs, logbooks, aircraft models, training |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | materials, equipment, uniforms, and other memorabilia; initially |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | housed at the Terrell Municipal Airport, the museum opened its |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | location on Silent Wings Boulevard on November 8, 2003; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Since its founding, the No. 1 British Flying |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Training School Museum has celebrated a little-known chapter of |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | World War II history while honoring the strong bond of friendship |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | between two great nations, and it is a pleasure to recognize this |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | important milestone in the history of the institution; now, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | therefore, be it |

| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |

| 34 | 34 | | Legislature, hereby commemorate the 20th anniversary of the |

| 35 | 35 | | No. 1 British Flying Training School Museum at its current |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | location and extend to its volunteers, board of directors, and |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | staff sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
